What is with VW R32 owners?

Having own two mark 4 GTI's I am fully aware of the build problems and lack of fit and finish in VW products (my 2003 20 anniversary GTI had peeling paint, rattles all over the inside, Windows falling off of regulators etc. etc. etc.). My 2003 EVO has been MUCH better!
Having been a Vw owner I still visit the vwvortex, all I see there is EVO and STI bashing. R32 owners are the worst! The constantly compare the "superior fit and finnish" of the VW to the "subpar" quality of the EVO and to a lesser extent the STI.
I guess the question is, WHY? Is the R32 really that great? or, do they need to constantly reassure themselves that they made the "right" purchase?
What do you guy's think?

my guess would be that you got one of the standard VW's build in Mexico, those are knows for build/finish issues.

some of VW's upscale models (Wulfsburg, r-32, others?) are made in germany & imported over here & those vehicles tend to show much less build issues & typically have better finishes

as an EVO owner there is no doubt the fit & finish of the R-32 is superior to my Semi-orange peel paint & standard lancer interior. then again, if i wanted a slow, comfy & refined car, i wouldn't have bought a race ready car like the evo, i woulda got a Benz, Bimmer or Audi

Personally, I know an R32 owner where I work who is very cool, doesn't boast about his car, and actually loves my Evo. One of my best friends also happens to be a DSM owner. Maybe these two guys are exceptions to the rule, but I've never had a problem with them or any other VW/DSM Owner's I've met.

My first mk4 gti (a VR6) was made in GERMANY (the vin started with wvw.. not 3vw or 9vw) and I had a lot of problems with that one also.

I think I hear the same thing at any specialized enthusiast site. By that I mean, HERE, the STI site, the Suzuki GSXR site, Honda CBR site, the Mustang board, even real estate job choices and so on. It is just part of the post-decision process. if you read anything on it it will most likely say that in order to resolve regret people tend to pick out the positive results of their choice. And you will find regret with close to every big decision that people make. No one is ever 100% satisfied. If anyone told me otherwise I wouldnt believe it. We always want more power, a different look, or a different sound. If everyone was so satisfied, even with EVOs, there would be no aftermarket for it or anything else. Almost everyone on here has done something, no matter how small, to their car. I got a muffler, chip and a shift knob w/ boot.

Human nature I think, no?

P.S. I have a 98 Jetta and I happen to think the fit/finish is just fine (made in mexico here). I even use that to feel satisfied with it. It was purchased for me without my input. The power figures leave much to be desired however.....

the R32 is a pretty sweet car, i test drove one, i think the only reason the guy let me test drive it is b/c i have an evo. it was ok but it was about 4 grand more than what i payed on my evo and its just slower. sounds sweet and looks nice just needs more proformance

They're just pissed we're faster. Fit and finish matter much less when you see our cheesy altezza lights and "ricer wing" pulling away from you as you fumble for 3rd gear
But don't let the few don't represent the many. The few guys I've met in person who drive those cars are real car guys and have a true appreciation for all things fast.
