Post 4-door supra?

I have a 1983 Toyota Cressida. It's a 4-door sedan w/ amenities that were pretty advanced for the 80's. (ex: power sun roof, power mirrors, power locks, power windows, etc...) It also has the same engine as the Supra in 83 (2.8L DOHC V6), hence the nickname "4-door supra". So, I was wondering if I can put some mods on it and make it an instant sleeper! I've been researching and the engine is capable of 300+ hp. Waste of time or perfect project car?

Interesting thread...never seen it. I guess you have the first 4 door Supra. I think the IS300 takes that torch away from you however.

I'm SORRY to inform you tha back in 83 the supra only had 3 selection of engines.... 1G(2.0L), 5M(2.5), 7M(3.0L) ALL were in-line 6 with twin-cam....no V engines were offered in the Supra or the Mark II (Cressida)the newer Mark II,Cresta, and Aristo have 1JZ engine like the Supra...SORRY

can you take photo of the engine?? it might help.

The 5MGE 2800cc DOHC (dual overhead cam) was introduced in the U.S. Supra in 1982. This Twin Cam was also used on the U.S. Cressida in 1983. This engine was the first production 6 cylinder Toyota Twin Cam- since the 3M Toyota 2000GT (a limited production model). This power plant was one of the main reasons the Supra became very popular, and a Toyota milestone model. In 1984 the EFI (electronic fuel injection) was updated to a digital system and the compression raised, this brought the horsepower up from 145 to 160.
