Possability or just stupidity?

I know that most to all people on this forum will be partial to the Evo but a chance has come up to purchase a 99 3000Gt Vr-4 with 36000 miles and it is in mint condition. The thing is it is about 28,000, and I am makin payments on my Evo.

So my plans were if it is a posability, meaning if my dad (cosigner) aproves, selling the Evo for whatever it is worth, maby 26-28 if im lucky and pay of the Evo leaving me with about 16 grand...i could put that down on the Vr-4 and my payments wouldnt chance much.
However I would be giving up my warrenty, however my Evo is slightly modded so they may deny the warrenty anyway.

Now concitering my dad alows me to do this, does it sound worth it?? And please dont say, your too young to be swiching cars, you should be happy with the Evo....cause I have heard it in my head over and over again....and I am greatfull. This is just the chance to own my dream car that I have wanted since I gained the need to drive.

I'd stick with the Evo, although the vr-4 would be very tempting if I were in your shoes. I like the styling of the Evo better than the 3000.

VR4s are heavy...I think I'd be happier keeping the Evo.

evo is much better than the 3000gt. it may be a twin turbo 6, but it has no low end power and besides, the evo is much more comfortable, new and has more features.

get whatever makes you happy. alot of us have bought things in lieu of wanting something else. I'm sure most people on here wouldn't mind trading an EVO in for a 1000HP modded Ferrari F50?!? The VR4 is a great car but is VERY heavy. it can be made to go fast. check out BEE Racing in japan. the 3000 is the GTO over there. they had 1 running 8.85's with 2 15's in the trunk & full interior!!!!!!!!!!!! very impressive. it also has an aerodynamic advantage over the EVO. i say keep the EVO, buy the 3000 for a daily & use the EVO has the weekend predator...

VR4 is a nice car insurance is going to be higher the car weighs a lot more and its not any faster than the evo is, yes it can be modded to be faster but so can the Evo warrentee or not the Evo is going to be a more reliable car as well.

The thing is I had a 97 base with the SOHC as my 1st car then got the Evo cause the 3k took a dive....so I have always been a 3k man however the evo is kinda the reliable car that cought my eye...so I got it. But I live and breath 3ks....I think they are more my car and have wanted a 99, plus I dont think the value will drop to fast, my evo after 6 months has lost like 3 grand in value, go figure. But the final say comes down to my dad, cause he also helped me with the down payment....but I pay for matanence on the Evo and the same will go for the 3k too, I just dont pay inshurince. The 3k is alittle more me, and i found one with low miles, sorta

twin turbo, twice the potential....

it is heavier, but so what, its also alot faster, lol. there will be alot of things that can be done though.

the 3000gt vr4 is a secksi beast of a car, the only thing i could be concerned about is engine maintenance. once one thing goes wrong with a mitsu v6, it all goes to **** quick.

i had a gf with a 3000gt SL and her engine went to CRAP after 75k,

you shouldnt end up paying more a month if you're putting 16k down, lol, geez thats got to be way more than half of what its worth... i'd be confident about a payment around 325 or less with 16k down

just make DAMN sure you change that oil releigously AND i, personally, would change the timing belt every 30k (thats one thing i specifically remember my gf's 3000gt having problems with)

both are nice cars, i'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you get.

Like an Evo isn't? 3000GT's are a dime a dozen, and I highly doubt anyone can distinguish between an SL and a VR4

Stick with the Evo, VR4's are rubbish.

i would get it, the 99 was the last year they made the 3kgt... in this area, u rarely see a 3kgt vr4... i mainly see sl and base models around... they do have alot of potention, i remember a guy from europe... think is website was www.3000gt.lv

besides the weight, i think alot of people forget about the potental of the vr4

oh ya, it was the 3kgtvr4 that got me into cars...

kamokazi, where in Dallas are you at? I've seen plenty of VR4's rolling around in the D/FW area, and fewer Evo's

I would stick with the Evo. 3000GT VR-4's are notoriously finiky and need a lot of maintenance.

You know what they say..... "3000GT, turning owners into mechanics since 1993"
