a vtec? are you kidding me? you guys are lost you just don't add vtec thats a whole motor swap right there, and theres different motors with different kinds of vtec. It's not worth getting an exaust and a CAI for a beat dude that gains are not worth the $. ANd if u get a CAI you will have to worry about hydrolocking. It's not worth it at all. If you do feel the need to spend any money on it, just make it look nice with a body kit or slam it.
Not that I am a Honda " lover", i like their poducts and think they and toyota are the very ones responsible for the better build in a lot of the cars today. I had a few honda's, my girlfriend has an accord v-6, and don't forget that if it wasn't for honda, and everyone modding their civics, mitsu probably would never have brought the evo here. it's kinda like respecting the old school rappers from the new guys!
I do love Hondas. My civic (lx, by the way) lasted me 150,000 + miles without any problems. But importlover1 is right - the CAI really can f*ck up your car. I had an AEM CAI on my Civic and that's what killed it. I drove through some hard rain on the way home from work - DIDN'T GO THROUGH A SINGLE PUDDLE - and my engine hydrolocked. Seriously, I did not drive through any puddles. I had it towed to my house, whole-heartedly expecting it to dry out and start up in the morning (it had sucked up water once before, died and restarted). No such luck. Broke a few rods. Dead. Replacement would have cost me more than the car was worth. Suck suck sucky.

. It's like judging someone by their pinky toe. Mitsu's fastest car (evo) and Honda's fastest car (NSX) are close competitors on the race track. The S2000 has the best hp/engine size ratio. Remember Honda doesnt use any turbos/superchargers for their cars. Unless you guys are referring to the honda ricers as someone alrdy mentioned, then thats a different story.

Remember mitsu uses turbos to get into the 300 hp range while honda has NA engines. ie: 3000gt vr-4, evo, etc. I think honda engines are pretty well built if you ask me.

I was going to suggest you do some ghetto mods appropriate for a $350 car - swiss-cheese the airbox, and use a crowbar to break the honeycomb out of the cat. Can also use a torch to cut the baffling out of the muffler.

with the $500, use it to fix whatever's wrong with the car.. maybe buy some nice plugs and wires, fix an air vent, a window regulator, put the 99-00 tails on it, get the windshield replaced, etc... try to make the car newer so that you might be able to get more than what you paid for it... that car can easily go for $3,000 if the money is invested correctly....

ok this guy rolled into my drive way...... he said is this for sale? i said yeah and it sounds nice. he said yeah? i said oooh yeah.... popped the hood bent into the engine bay was thinking how do i make this sound better? pull the intake tube! it was no sweat....i took the plastic intake tube in my hand and yanked it out. slammed the hood shut turned around and said take it for a spin. when they came back they said how much i said 3g's and i get to ***** yur girl. he said 2g's and i'll let you kiss my girl. i said 3g's and i won't touch her ever. he said deal and peeled off them bills on the spot. LX Civic white no dents, 1997 registered smogged certified carfax 157,000 and still purs like a kitten clutch still tight no play.. i pulled that tube to make the car sound betta, they bought it.
