Just as an FYI - I haven't found a way to change the AYC fluid yet. It requires a special machine to do it and none of the shops in the US have it. It's called the MUT-II and I can't find a single dealer that has one.

For now I only drive it to meets and to the track. I don't really ever drive it just to be driving it (I like my VIII more )

damn, I was worried about service issues like that

thanks sterling, just looking at those pics makes me hope that I will one day be the owner of a car that beautiful, I mean I may even like it more then the C32 AMG I used to drive

right now the car has a lancer vin and it's registered as a 2001 lancer but I want to insure it for more of a replacement value and if someone hits me I'm concerned that insurance (mine or theirs) will be wondering why NONE of the parts ordered coincide with a 2001 lancer

if anyone knows if I can insure the car for a decent value that's not a HUGE jump in cost to myself without really trashing the law I'd really appreciate it

god I want that car....soooo beautiful

thanks again guys, i appreciate your imput

from what I'm reading on those links, it seems to be a HUGE problem that the car is right hand drive, am I going to run into some issues in my state VA having a right hand drive car

could some whistle blower at a state testing facility or emissions testing facility possibly make me turn my car over with suspecion of being stolen and they do an intense check on it

the thing that worries me the most is I'll have the car and get state inspection done and then all of a sudden the state will take it away from me

From what I understand it is a high risk situation. Swapping vins is illegal and then making an insurance claim on that swapped vin is insurance fraud. Plus when they see that you don't have the proper paperwork for an imported car they can seize it and crush it. That is the worst case senario. Someone please correct me if I'm am wrong on anything.

How much you want for it. I don’t care if it is registered as a lancer once its in the system its never out period. I don’t care as long as it has a vin number and registration.

if I buy this car from another person and something happens to it, couldn't I claim naievity?

I mean the layperson dosen't exactly check the exact vin everyplace ti's supposed to be stamped on a car

I know "buyer beware" but couldn't...worst case I claim not to have known?

You could but you will still lose the car and then you would have to sue the seller assuming that he stated(in writing) that it was legal.

You have to pay to play. If you want it bad enough and losing it wouldn't put you in a bad financial situation, I say get it. Just remember to play it cool when people ask how you got it and how you imported it. Not everyone just has a "genuine interest" in the car. They may be shady and maynot be who you think they are. Also, go with a collector car insurance then do a "consumer set value" for the actual value of the car The problem with the consumer set value is to get a reasonable price you can't drive more then XXXX miles a year depending on plan and it's very expensive.

It's only money!

Az3ar - I couldn't get rid of it, I love it too much. Plus I bought it for my wife and she would divorce me if I sold it (It's her track car)

whatever you do dont tell anybody that the vins are swapped...thats dumb
If you decide to buy th evar its not a big deal. Everybody and there mother that has a illegally imoprted car does this. If you wanna really play it safe register the car in a small town(they usually dont get alarmed by **** like this) There are plenty of VIN swapped RHD cars in richmond...nobody has had any issues. Just make sure you get it insured for the proper value.
A good excuse you can use is this.
You converted a lancer to a evo seven and swapped the front clip of th e7 making it right hand drive for show purposes. And when you swapped the front of the 7 onto your lancer you styaed with your lancer vin#'s since that is the only legal thing
DONT EVER TELL ANYONE ITS A VIN SWAPPED CAR

Unfortunatly you already told to many people on here.

The only other way to get a car around the system is buying it in south florida. Many people down there have connections in DMV and can get a car registered, its very common in miami.
or
You can buy a RHD 15 years or older like a r32 in canada..(they are legal) and then just mport it here or just drive it with Canadian plates.

If you have any other info pm me, Im pretty knowledgable about this stuff. Just keep your intentions off the net...never know who is reading

How about you just say what you know and use generalized terms, no specific names. I am curious about this as well.

well I can't afford to have my car reposessed and crushed

hell today I got pulled over for the exhaust on my integra, I'm not trying to play the lottery with the car

so if it's not legal and all then I'm not going to purchase this car

too much of a gamble

thanks for all your help everyone, hopefully I can find another evo
