evolution imported models

I have the opportunity to purchase a very sweet evo but it's currently registered with a 2001 us lancer vin

the guy has plates for it and everything, but what I want to know is, how hard would it be for me to import this car legally once I buy it from him

I would want to register it for real so I could insure it for the real value

if someone ever hits me and ti's their fault they're gonna wonder why they're paying for a 4g63 turbo motor when the car's vin says it's NA. and the front bumper is different and all the other differences

so if anyone on the east coast or even the whole country could help me, I really need info on how to legally import a car once it's already here

and differences between a 2001 evolution 7 and a us importable car

thanks in advance

Nick

no real way to cheaply transfer it leagally. if they are questioning what a turbo is doing on it, tell them it was installed after the car was purchased. insurance companies have to cover whats on the car not what the car came with from the factory. you should be ok

I'm gonna have to ask my insurance guy, do you think I should tell him about the suspected vin swap or what?

Buying a VIN swapped car is a bad idea. I was lucky to get mine already legalized. I would check with the DMV first to see what you can do to get it legalized before you buy it.

The truth is that there is no real way to legalize it. If you wanted to do this few years ago it would have been much easier but now it's almost impossible as I have tried for few months with my full weight on it and could not do it. They ask for crash test to performed on US soil, which no one can afford (not me). Where is the car? Is it in the US now?

Somebody had a 7 that was registered in FL, and they stopped by one of our meets in DC. Unfortunately, I don't know how it was registered, but I know it can be done. Good luck... It would be sweet to have a 6.5 & 7 at our meets, then we'll just need 1-5

We do have 6 TME in our meets here in VA (red). It’s not an easy task at all and DOT, DMV, Homeland security and many others want their cuts on it. It’s sad but that’s how the system works..

Is there somewhere to look or someone to call who knows exactly what has to be done and who is capable of doing it?

Here's a site, but I think it mostly refers to people who are moving here and bringing a car with them: http://www.palmermoving.com/relo2us....earingVehicles

Here's a similar site: http://www.unigroupworldwide.com/rel..._usa_g.html#cv

I think they give the basics of what's required...

the car is already in the states and has been for the last couple of months... the current owner has plates on it and everything.. but it seems its registered as a lancer...

what if blackthorn got a vin off a totalled EVO... that would help with any insurance coverages that he may need in the event of an accident
