I'm in trouble.. please help..
hello guys.
I'm in serious trouble..hmmm
last year, I got a speeding ticket.
I went to court and got the fine reduced...
Then DMV (Department of vehicle in Virginia) sent me a letter that saids, I had to complete an 8 hours of driving education by January 25th, 2005.
But I was busy last few months for sending applications, and taking SAT. ( I'm a senior in high school)
Anyway, I called a driving school a week before the deadline. But no one actually got my phone. So I couldn't complete the education before the deadline.
My license was suspended by then as it was mentioned on the letter. But also, it saids, I could still complete the education, and get my license reinstated. So I went to a driving school 2 days after my license was suspended, and completed the 8 hours. After the school, they gave me a certificate. When I got home, I started driving my car again. Guess what? I got pulled over by a police. Ok..
I didnt do anything bad, she just checked my license plate number and caught me.
She, right a way, told me my license was suspended. I explained to her everything I said above. But she anyway gave me a ticket that invited me to COURT, and she took my suspended license away. This was all happened on Friday. On Saturday, the next day, I went to DMV and got my drivable license back!
Ok... some of you already have an idea what I'm gonna ask...
I need to go to court, and I'm scared...
I want to know if I have to have an attorney.
Or can I just go by myself and explained the situation.
Please help me...I'm desperate.... I know this doesnt do anything with the original purpose for this forum..
But Please help..please...

honestly dont worry about it. just take any information (as far as papers/certificates/etc.) you can with you. just explain your case. you'll be fine. no need for an attorney. save your money.
^ i agree
Heres the suspected outcome .....
Nice judge .... throws case out after you explain
Mean judge .... Takes away your licence for a long time.
if your scared about the mean judge id get a lawyer.
There either going to rape you or let you get off .... really no other option

My advice to you is to bring the "certificate of completion" to court and be very apologetic. Do not argue with anything the judge says. I know it's a blow to your ego, but if you look at the series of events that led up to this anybody involved can clearly see you totally blew off your responsibilties. I mean come on dude, what kind of crap is this...
When it comes to the law nobody gives 2 $hits about little things like that. I'm not trying to lecture you, but this is exactly the type of brutal tongue lashing you'll get from a judge if you try to make excuses or justify your position. They don't care. They are not your mom.
I think you'll be OK though. The judge was a senior in high school once too.
He may impose a fine or community service sentence that might ruin a few of your weekends, but he's not going to ruin your life by revoking your license or putting you in jail or anything extreme like that. Whether you're a mature guy or not, all they have to go on is your actions and your actions make it look like you're still a kid. Be prepared to get treated like one in court.

I don't know about where you live, but I've never seen a traffic ticket thrown out in all the times I've been to traffic court. But then again, if they don't put you back out on the street they can't make revenue from your driving, so they may let you off. Kinda like throwing back the small fish till they get bigger.
Get lawyer'd up homeboy, $500 for an attorney will help you.
At least call one and ask their opinion. Most will consult with you over the phone for free, just call a couple and ask them what they think will happen. I think you'll be OK though.

Where u live is very important cause court systems have diff judges. U may have some nice judges so i wouldnt be too worried. Make up a really good excuse like u had to go to church or a volunteer activity and u didnt have a ride. Be like i completed the course and thought i would be alright if i drove to the event. Then when they say show proof u went to the volunteer place or church be like they pulled me over while i was going and i just went back home.
i got a ticket once for driving while suspended, i argued that i wasnt aware that i was suspended, and got my license back before i went to court. i plead guilty, so i was taken to the back of the courtroom to get some paperwork about a public defender and whatnot. (in oregon among other states- driving while suspended is a criminal act, not just a moving violation)i mentioned to the DA that i had my license back, he told the judge, i went back before the judge, argued i wasnt aware of the license, ect. the judge dropped the ticket, and fined me $100. it was still a pain to skip work, and pay the impound (luckily my brother came and got me and lived nearby) and the ticket. i spent over $400 in all. in oregon even if you have a passenger with a valid license they still have to tow your car (wife was with me at the time) and keep it over night. anyway, it worked out fine for me. if you are worried i would hire a lawyer, but i wouldnt think you would need it good luck.
I would get a attorney. The attorney makes it look better and he will do all of the talking for you. And when he asks you questions always says yes sir or no. Not yea or nah. ive seen people do that and the judge rips them apart. Goodluck

You WILL be assesed a fine for each infraction. As it sounds like you have no case against any of the charges I'm sure you'll be found guilty (you are). There will most likely will be a period of suspension, but the real danger you face and somthing a lawyer may help you with is the insurance points you will acrue. I'm not sure what state your in but in MA minor moving violations are 2 pnts, majors are 4. I'm not sure of the exact #' s but get too many in a given time like 6 in a year and you can get an automatic 60 day suspension etc. A lawyer can advise you here, think of your future as well, carring a huge insuarance premium could bleed you to death over the next six years or if you have an accident put you in the running for "habitual offender" (12 points in MA / over 2 years etc). Good luck
