Hey Thwack, check this out:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...+start+neutral

Go down and find the post by kgmm,

he explains how he used a contact switch to engage the neutral safety. Does that sound like a plausible solution? It sounds like it'd be pretty reliable... anyway, I just gave the store a call and they're gonna call back and set me up with an appointment. I'll let you know as soon as possible what day and time, but my guess is sometime saturday.

Yeah, the $450 covers the bypass module too.. it's incredible. I kinda had to bargain a bit though. Oh yeah, how much does an extra key cost from the dealer?

Actually, thats a really good idea that I never considered. the only tricky part i see is connecting the magnetic contact on the underside of the shifter since thats where the linkage for the tranny is connected, but it is definitely possible, and would probably be easier than my way.... I'm just not sure it would work flawlessly, since it might be in gear and still sense the magnet, especially if one of the sensors became loose. I suggest you aand the alarm guy try it out see if its sensitive enough that it can sinse the slight difference in sensor psotion, and if it works, make sure you attach it good and you should be set. I still think i'd prefer soemthign as failsafe as mine.... there is NO WAY it will work unless the shifter is perfectly straight up.

Hey Thwack, if you're still interested, I'm going in at around 10am to get it installed - assuming they take around 3 hours, they'd probably do remote start last.. so I dunno. If you want, I'd say drop by around 12:30 or 1 or something if you're interested. I forwarded these ideas to the guy so maybe he'll be thinking about it? I'm going to call tomorrow to see if he's decided on a method yet for the safety switch.

hey stryder, do you have a blue evo and have a ralliart license plate frame? I had my car alarm installed there and I was with a friend in the morning but we were in a hurry so I just had the guy installed what he recommended and got the hell outta there. I did'nt want the remote start cause I don't feel as if he didn't recommended it. I got the clifford basic alarm with 2-way pager, built-in battery siren and tilt sensor. I'm gonna put my new rims and an evo8 wing this week. Anyways, that was a nice evo you got there, did you get to have the remote start installed with the safety switch? That guy is awesome, he showed me all the stuff he installed and they all work. Great, now i have a peace of mind.

Yup, that would be me!

I went ahead and got the remote start installed - Thwack, thanks for stopping by man. As it turns out, we did the spring thing AND used a contact switch for double safety. The guy also reprogrammed my timer for 2 min - I'm thinking of going in and having it changed to 1:30, as 2 min seems a bit long... anyway, everything is working great, and I love it!

good to hear that you used the spring thing, it really is a lot safer. how did he fasten the spring to the shifter mount? also do you know how he reprogrammed the timer? did he hook it up to anything, or simply reprogram the remote via the buttons?

Yeah, the guy seemed very straight up and knowledgeable. I'll probably go to him next time i need a complex install done.

I'm not sure exactly how he mounted the spring, after you left I went back to finish my lunch Same deal with the remote timer.. I don't see anything in the manual to indicate it might be able to be done from the remote, but I could be wrong.. my guess is that it might be something that is changeable from the brain of the alarm itself.

For the grounding kit, it was actually made by someone on the private/for sale forums. The guy's name is happies137 or something like that, just look for a huge thread where he's selling them - they were going for like $40 shipped but I think they're $50 shipped now - he sells them in red, blue, yellow, silver, and black I think.. basically every color is covered. They're not bad at all, and for $40 they were a great deal compared to the factory option or the HKS kits which go for $100+... to be honest I'm not really sure I can feel a difference - the car is maybe smoother at idle but that's about it? hahah.. it's good for a peace of mind though.

Before I left with my car, he was doing some timing adjustment using some type of a programming pad that he hooks up on the brain of the alarm. I had him change how long my alarm will sound when it's triggered. He said it was easier to do it that way instead of accessing it through the valley switch. Maybe he did the timer in that manner. You could of course give him a call to get the answer
