MD Emissions

Has anyone without a cat gotten a MD emissions test recently? I took my van in to get tested yesterday and they mirror checked every car there much to my surprise (and dismay). I wonder if they just happened to do it that day or if they are now cracking down on looking for cats? Yes, I know going catless is illegal, wrong, etc., but that sure would suck if that's the case.

Get a Cobb AP, emissions won't matter. These are low paid govt employees, do you REALLY think they know/give a **** what your exhaust looks like? They are looking for alot of things, catalytic presence, leaks, etc. Get the Cobb and the emissions codes will be blocked.

Or just buy a 1 dollar spacer which pulls the o2 sensor out of the exhaust stream. My car doesn't throw any codes.

That's what I have. I've never had a CEL, so no worries there, but a mirror check I would fail. Maybe I'll just bring an extra $20 when the time comes. Let us know if they try to do a visual check for your test.

Since my car is new and isn't even technically registered in MD yet, it's going to be a few years before I get hit up for emissions, but I'll post my results if/when I do.

Or you could just swap an OEM cat on the car, drive through and swap it back out. Bit of a pain, but its only once every 2 years.

You can turn all the cel codes off in your ecu. From what I could tell the mirror test was just for show. For all the attention my tech paid, I could have had a bomb and an elephant in place of the converter and he still would've passed me.

As long as your car doesn't throw codes you'll be fine. You gotta go to the right emissions station too. I just passed a couple weeks ago with test pipe no problem.

This is right on. I got mine done last week, and the visual is a joke. Just dont have your CEL on and you'll be fine.

Test it, though......I WOULD have known about some issues but my check engine light was burned out.

I passed past 2 emission tests with testpipe on. Both done in Owings Mill location. I picked the gate where Lady was doing the inspection. Passed right away.
