$650 is cheap, dude...a reckless driving conviction will cost you several thousand $$$ over the next 3-5 years in increased auto insurance rates...plus, you may lose your license for 6 months!

Pay for the lawyer...get it knocked down to straight speeding...take the course if you have to...and get on with your life...

That is usally the point where they start pulling you over. AS WELL THEY SHOULD!!! Ive picked WAY too many DUMBa$$ ****in Kids off the street who thought they knew how to drive. They are out there trying to save your ingratefull little A$$ from near certain pain and suffuring! BTW: you may be the best driver in the world but have you ever seen what happens to you after youve been ejected from a vehicle which has just suffered a blowout at 91mph?......I HAVE! not much left. you ID them by a jacket or a wallet but rarely by their face.

Sorry to rant but im sick and tired of kids thinking they can go fast 4ever and live, I've seen too much not to rant.

Peace,

SLOW DOWN!
Thanks for the rant.

Speeding is only dangerous when you do it in inappropriate places. Anywhere with poor visibility, poor road conditions, or heavy traffic is not safe. This being said, it is not necessarily speed that kills but the difference in speed. If everyone around you is speeding then matching their speed can actually be safer.

I get the impression that EvoPyro was probably speeding in a fairly safe area and I would hazard a guess that traffic around him was probably doing between 75 - 80 mph, making 91 really not dangerous at all. Cops usually gun in areas where people feel comfortable and safe speeding. Here their numbers are better. Unfortunately they would be more helpful gunning on slower speed roads where people have actually been injured due to excessive speed.

Thank you, also, for assuming that most EvoM members are, how did you eloquently put that? oh yes -- "DUMBa$$ ****in Kids". You might be surprised to find that many are older and actually quite intelligent. This begs the question: How many EvoM members would be caught in an overweight SUV doing 91mph, not wearing a seatbelt, with under inflated Bridgestones? I ask this as this was probably responsible for your car accident ejection reference.

EvoPyro -- I am sorry for your misfortune with the ticket and I hope that things get resolved reasonably. It is interesting how strict they are in VA. Out here in CO you would have been able to plead it down to 4 points and a $100 fine.

The punishment should fit the crime.

Good luck.

Well my lawyer seems to know everyone in the court house where my ticket is so hopefully that helps out a lot. And yes it was a very safe stretch of road very open and very long. There was no traffic in front of me because there were two cars blocking the lanes doing 65 so when i sped in front of them it was wide open but i didnt get more then a few feet ahead of the first car before I got nailed.

Well, I was charged with reckless driving twice in VA since I got my EVO. Been driving a Lexus for 5 years before - never even pulled over.
First time in southern VA on I-95 92/65 - $250 for a lawyer (life is cheap down there) plus $200 fine/court costs + $60 traffic school and, after some plea bargaining charge reduced to 74/65 (3 points)
Second time 87/65 in Loudoun count on a greenway - $600 lawyer, $200 fine/court costs, reduced to 74/65 based on speedometer calibration. It was showing 65 while actual speed was 81, calibration cost - another $100.
So my total speed tax paid to the ****ung state of VA was almost $1.5k grand.
That would be enough for two valentine one's front and rear, stealth install
and change left for a dynoflash.

I feel your pain dude, but those valentines would only get confiscated and you'd get even higher fines and more hassle in VA...... BTW, I've had my experience with 80+ mph ticket and it was very expensive including the lawyer.

The area around I-95 in Southern Virginia is a speed trap. The area I'm referring to is Emporia, Virginia. I have not driven through there with my Evo yet, but I have been through there before. I-95 and the local roads around the town are swarming with cops. Everyone around here knows to be at least 5 miles under the speed limit when driving to/through/near Emporia. I once met a friend at the Hardees right off the highway - I beat him there by about an hour and watched the cops drive by. You can watch them circle around the Interstate exit area, getting off the highway and getting right back on so they can go nail someone else.

I realize that not being from this area, you don't know what the locals know about the speed traps, it sucks you got nailed. Sometimes you just have to swallow your pride and not pass the slowpokes who are only doing 80. Good luck with the courts...
