pulled over in VA

I was coming back from my vacation from myrtle beach and as I was driving along 95 in southern VA I got a ticket. It was for reckless driving by speed 91 in a 65 (yea i know stupid right). So my question is this, does anyone know for sure if points transfer to maryland or not, and also is this a mandatory court apperance, as I live almost 5 hours away and starting a new job this would be almost impossible to meet the sept 2 court date they already gave me(in maryland we have to wait for them to mail it). Thanks in advance

As a former VA resident, I must inform you that you are in serious trouble with that ticket. Speeds over 90 MPH can result in license suspension and possible jail time. Reckless driving is a Class 1 Misdemeanor in VA...in other words, a criminal offense that carries a fine of up to $2500 and up to 1 year in jail (though you'll likely get just a fine of a few hundred $$$). You live in MD, so the MD DMV rules should apply as far as your license is concerned, but the offense in VA definitely will show up on your MD driving record and will wreak havoc with your auto insurance...your rates will go through the roof with a reckless driving conviction on your record. Generally, you DO have to appear in court for a reckless driving ticket in VA. I strongly suggest you get a lawyer right away and discuss your options. I wish I had better news, dude, but that's the reality of your situation...

Good Luck...

Hire a lawyer, ASAP. Get one that is buddy buddy with all the judges and prosecutors down there. Wreckless is no joke in VA. You'll actually have a criminal record, and it stays on your driving record for 12 years.

Misdemeanor is the key word there. This isn't some minor traffic offense. Do everything you can to have it knocked down to improper driving.

as he said exactly. VA has no real crime what so ever so when you speed that a crime. you are in deep trouble VA is known to be F state when it comes to speeding you can even get away with red light but once they get you speeding you are having a ticket my friend. if you were here in CA it would have been a different stroy as i pass cops and tropers on the free way every day doing over 90 lol with my big wing on the back.

I've been to court for more speeding tickets than anyone i know. My expert opinion is HIRE A LAWYER!!!! You will prob would have been able to work out some community service if you were a resident but since your in MD i suggest Lawyer. Yes its true you can get jail time but an out of state resident.....I doubt if your lawyer has any common sense you will get much more than EXTREME Fines ($1000 +) and 6 points minimum. Good luck dude!
www.verizon.com should have the VA yellow pages.

And try to find some driving classes to bring down those points. I am sure if you hire a lawyer down there he will be able to refer to something good. But you will def need a lawyer. Caue VA dont screw around with speeding. The cops there have nothing else to do Good luck man

Okay Richmond, VA Has the 14th highest crime rate in the COUNRTY! so dont gimmi that siht about NO CRIME (just ranting cause inve lost friends up there and have been shot at myself) But state police View speeding as a big crime only up to 80mph. That is usally the point where they start pulling you over. AS WELL THEY SHOULD!!! Ive picked WAY too many DUMBa$$ ****in Kids off the street who thought they knew how to drive. They are out there trying to save your ingratefull little A$$ from near certain pain and suffuring! BTW: you may be the best driver in the world but have you ever seen what happens to you after youve been ejected from a vehicle which has just suffered a blowout at 91mph?......I HAVE! not much left. you ID them by a jacket or a wallet but rarely by their face.

Sorry to rant but im sick and tired of kids thinking they can go fast 4ever and live, I've seen too much not to rant.

Peace,
Rick

calm down dude, I mean judge, sorry to bug you. when you say VA you mean fairfax, alexandria where the riches county in the usa can be found. I have lived there and my friends are cops and fire fighters and trust me when i say they have huge budget for that. NVA is wicked when it comes to speeding dont play with them.

Well I emailed several lawyers in that area and waiting for them to get back to me. Also I know what I was doing was very stupid, and I am not blaming the cop for doing his job. But Im not a kid and I dont think that I can go fast forever. I am just trying to find out some information about some trouble I got myself into.

Well I got a lawyer that will represent me with out me being there, since im 5 hours away. Also its going to cost me 650 just for the lawyer, you know how many parts I could buy with that . but he is going to try and get it reduced to speeding and said I would probally have to take some safe driver class.
