I live in Schaumburg and i'm about to get my tints done this weekend. I was wondering for those who already have tints, do you get pulled over alot? What tints % do you have done and what so. THanks for the help

 

as long as you don't do anything stupid,cops will probably leave you alone. i've got 6% all the way around on my car and i never get any crap about it. when i got nailed for speeding the cop just stood there a min. (and it really was about a min.) looking at my side-rear window, i thought "aw man here it comes" but he never said a word.

 

I have only received one verbal warning, while a written was given for the front plate. He just asked if I was going to take care of it, no front/side window tint.

I was asked if I drive the car much, because alot of police departments have been running my plate, however, I really do not get pulled over that much.

At least he complimented me on the car, and asked what mods I had, and of course backup arrived, yeah for a tint and front plate stop. He was gawking too! Asked if the Defi's in the CH panel were stock.

from what i know in IL you cant have tints at all on the front driver and passenger side windows but can have however dark you want in the back. Also any type of silver tints are banned regardless if you have them in the front or back

 

im not sure about laws in IL, but in MA, 35% tint all around and 0% on the rearwindow is fine. (they have no instrument to test the back window because it has to fit across both sides of the window). be warned though, 0% in the back is stupid because it ruins rear visability.

 

Iceman was right about the tint in Illinois. You can't have anything on the front windows. I have 20% all around, and have been pulled over multiple times. I'm a Firefighter/Paramedic, so I've never been ticketed for it. I've also played the "why-would-the-shop-do-it-if-it-is-illegal-and-not-inform-me-of-it, I-had-no-idea-and-I'm-really-sorry" card a few times. That has always worked for me, too. The cops in my area are cool about it, though. Driving through Schuamberg makes me a little more nervous and I usually roll down the front windows before I pass the approaching cop if I think it might be a problem. Even though it's illegal, you can't beat how sweet it looks!

 

So far so good for me, I live in Hoffman, and haven't been harrassed yet. No tint on the front though. Just the sides and the back.

 

55% all the way around for more than a year, no problems.

 

I have had tints (20%) all around on every car I have had in the last 13 yrs.
I live and drive primarily in the North & NW suburbs of CHGO. In 13 yrs I have had 6 warnings and been to court 4 times. Pulled over for just the tints maybe 5 times. The most recent 2 times was 10/04 and 3/05 all from Schaumpton Police. In Oct I was fined $200.00, 2 weeks ago the ticket was dismissed. Both times I brought pics of my car before it was tinted. It all depends on the Judge's mood. He/she can do whatever they want.

my buddy (sti) that lives in Schaumburg and I(evo) tinted our cars 1 yr ago. Because he lives in Schaumburg he has been harrassed and pulled over at least 7 times by Hoffman & schaum cops. I have been pulled over 4 times in schaumburg all in the last yr. So we removed the fronts. Sucks!!

DON'T TINT AND DRIVE THRU SCHAUMPTION...

 

35% driver and passenger side windows,...50% back windows, i still haven't been "harassed" about'em. A lot of cars these days have slight tints to the point where you can still see the silhouette of the driver,...so cops still think its factory made tints..they wont bother

 

Legal for IL last I knew:

Whatever you want on back window, and any rear passenger windows. 1/2 way on the front windows (dark as you want) and a 6" strip across the front (dark as you want). Anything more than that is technically illegal.
I'm sure you can do like 35% and still be fine though, unless you are being stupid and an a-hole cop wants an exuse to pull you over.

I put 5% on the back and rears, and left the rest alone.

 

I used to tint windows and if you really want to do the windows I'd go 5% rear and 30% front especially in IL. I used to have all mine tinted around at 5% in my car until I got sick of being rolled everyday no JOKE.

 

when im in schaumburg ( at my aunts house ) i never have any trouble. I think im at 16% al the way around ( thats factory tint + 20%) but not the front windshield which i've been debating. Never been pulled over there (prolly cuz im out of state) but my my driving ( which would be presumed wreckless ) is great!

 

the only time cops will bother u about the tints is if you get pulled over for something else...
