Did you buy your Evo used?
I'm looking to get some first had info from people who got a used evo. Please try to keep the "I know a guy how talked to a girl" stories. I'm a bit worried to buy one used because I know that not everyone takes care of cars like I do.
I'm not looking at any car right now but would just like to hear from people. In fact, I won't be buying one untill Jan 1st 2009 because that's when the Army is letting me come back to the US.
Thanks in advance everyone.

That's what I was thinking but even back when I sold my OZ I striped it clean. Due to this, I don't know how many people would dump it off on a dealer without saying that it had been modded. Maybe should I just stay away from dealers and look for a private seller when the time comes.
The deals are to be had out there. One just has to do their due diligence and homework before they purchase a performance vehicle.
I purchase my '03 TB w/ 33K on the odometer back in Oct. of last year for $19,200. She now has 42K on her and not one single problem, glory to God!

I purchased my Evo 8 used from Carmax. It's a 2003, and when I bought it, it had 22k miles on it only. My advise would be dont buy one from a dealer unless it's new, and if you get a used one, make sure the miles are low.
I got mine with 4500 miles on it.
The car is in very good condition and I couldn't be happier.
The best advice I can give you when looking at a used EVO is just go out and drive it, that's the only thing that's going to give you a good idea of how well the car was taken care of.
Other than that, happy shopping in January of 2009. EVO X

A guy that lives down the street from me purchase a use VIII and has had alot of problems so he took it in to a local shop and found out it had NO2 on it before
The boost level is way down and car lags something horrible and it smokes like crazy , so if you can take it to a mechanic or bring one with you to look at the car
I was going to get a 04 WW Evo VIII, but the Mitsu dealer in San Jose treated me like crap. I told them that I have about 10K for the down payment. But they didn't believe me and asked me to write a check for 10K. They ran credit check and everything.
The ad for the car was for 26K but I wanted for 24K. After 2 hrs with the salesman the manager came out and said that he'll let it go for 27.5K. I gave them the middle finger and walked about. The manager was like, "come back when you're serious"
Bought a brand new 05 TB the next day, drove back to the dealer in San Jose the following weekend and let those **** have a piece of my mind.

bought mine used- slight issues but nothing the BMW dealer that I bought the car from didn't fix- It had 32k on the clock but now with 37k 6 months later- Love the car- make sure it is a reputable dealer, I would be sketchy about buying from an individual. There are those people who are great and up-front and honorable, but there are some that just want to get out of the car.

Thanks for all the replys and good stories, they bring my hopes of finding a good used evo up. I will have to make sure to have my mechanic look at it, they have been taking care of my family for a long time and we trust them fully.
Well, I guess now I just have to keep saving up and wait to get back to the states. Can't wait to be an active member again (ie driving a mitsu).

I bought mine used as well from a private party.
I was looking at a stock one. When I meet the owner the first time, he told me he had a DSM heavily modified as well as a mustang Cobra. I was scared but I time with the owner, saw that he was taking good care of his cars, saw that he was driving quite well (he really pushed the car to show me the capacity of the car).
I trusted him and I've done a good deal
It was an 03 with 16,000 mi.
