Where are the good roads?

So I'm just a bit frustrated after driving outside the city today to enjoy the car and the day -- after 5 hours all I got was traffic, trucks, crap road conditions, construction sites (on and off highway), speed traps, tolls, errant rocks and gravel, highway marriages, and other ****.

And I didn't stick to the highways, I took backroads off of 94 and 55 and still got lots and lots of traffic, 30 mph zones for miles, and POP-ready cops.

I'm not looking for places to raise hell and drive recklessly, just somewhere within 150 miles of the city where I can enjoy the car without tons of traffic on roads that don't make my teeth chatter and maybe a few curves throw in once in awhile.

Suggestions appreciated...

I would like to know too. Lake shore drive is probably the only road I hit up for a short cruise, otherwise outside the city its mostly straight roads and that can get boring fast.

well there's one road in oak brook which is tons of fun called spring rd off of 31st e just past kingery. through the forest, a lot of turns, and about a mile or so long. downside is that the popo station is right across from it and the speed limit is 25. lol that's all i really know of around here but i'll keep watching this thread and see what shows up

You gotta go further out to enjoy backroads. From Chicago you are looking at a 75-100 mile drive to get there. Pretty much jump on a highway, and get off on a small town exit.

If you are looking for uncrowded roads just look around Yorkville.....A lot of county roads and the further west you go the better.....

Good hunting

You could always cruise out to Kane or McHenry counties. My Bro lives in Kane county and took me on some whicked roads while on our motorcycles. They were the kind of roads that you can see straight down for miles. We hit a buck on our bikes with no problems. Good visibility and no apparent hazards. Just take 90 West to 47, then to Harmony road. You'll be breathing cow **** in no time!

Couldn't agree more. I live just north of Algonquin rd off of rt47. There are plenty of wide open country roads with long straights and twistys just west of 47. I used to live in Schaumburg and it was hell trying to find a nice open road to tune or play on. Out here there's rarely any traffic and visibility as far as the eye can see provided you're not next to a cornfield.

Are there hills, or is it just curvy? I'm bored this morning, and thinking about going for a cruise today.
