^^how long you have them on? I've heard about people getting out of paying tickets by presenting proof at court that the tints were removed. anyone have any experiences with this?

Yes, take a picture of your windows w/o the tint and judge will let you go.

I borrowed a Polaroid camera since those pics can't be edited and took several pics of the car with the windows rolled down halfway. Judge looked at the pics and sent me on my way. No fine!

i've been pulled over once (knock on wood) for my tints. suburban cop (what a dick) gave me a ticket for that and no front plate. IL has really gotten strict about this, but i think it has more to do w/ what town ur in. i have the lightest possible in the front and about 60% in the rear. my EVO's graphite grey, and i think it looks SICK w/ all the windows tinted and i refuse to take off the front tints just yet. i have rolled down my front windows when i pass a cop, but thats only been in certain towns that i know have ********* for cops. i did go to court and show a pic of my car w/o the fronts tinted, and the ticket was dropped. i think it all depends on how much u want to deal w/ the inconvenience/nonsense of it all. i personally love the look that tints give a car-especially on EVO's.

I have 35% on the sides (front and back) and 20% on the rear windshield. I was pulled over on 355S (after following behind a Downer's Grove cop, making sure not to pass him or speed) by a State Trooper.

He walked up and told me that I was "kind of speedy out there". I assure you grandmas, soccer moms, and semi's were passing me (remember I'm still behind the DG cop going between 60 and a max of 65).

Then his partner walks up and says "hey you know front tints are illegal in IL? I don't know if you bought it from the dealership like that or what but it shouldn't have come with it"

I politely said " You can still see me right? I know that there was a lot of debate over Cook County/Chicago cop safety from tint being too dark and the police not knowing if there was a weapon on the other side."

They said. " yeah we can still see you fine, but it's still illegal for the fronts. anything behind the driver can be as dark as you want"

....So long story short I got a written warning for going 64 mph and there's a written record for having front tints (and I got 35% so they wouldn't harass me!)

So I took the wing off my car since that had to be a magnet/attention getter. Has anybody ever tried going 64mph on 355? You run the risk of getting rear ended from going too slow

Dude it's like 19 degrees out today, do you do it every time?

I agree, it would seem that malls are fair game for a cop that basically has nothing better to do. I personally think it's a revenue stream. from inside the car tints don't affect visibility, they help keep the car cooler in summer, and their basically a freedom of speech/expression of self and should be allowed on people's personally owned cars.

You know what I don't see? Mercedes, Bimmers, lexus, cadilliacs, and infinitis with tints that get pulled over. Same goes for those chromed out manufacturer logo front plates for all of the above. My father is a perfect example his last 3 cars were an Acura RL (tint all the way around), a BMW 3.28ci (tint on the windows, since it's coupe), and a black Mercedes C320 35% tint on the side, 20% on back just like my car). Not one ticket for any of those. He has a BMW X3 that he just got, and asked me where I got my tints done, because he'll be at it again.

What I do see, generally, is imports (japanese and euro) and camaro and mustangs pulled over for no front plate and tints (and not just assumptions, I've been in the car with my friends NOT speeding). In my opinion there is some slight profiling going on...

Not entirely true but I can see your point, similar to the argument of Harleys never being pulled over for loud exhaust.

I used to have a GS400 with dark tints. In 3 years I was never once pulled over for tints. My mom borrowed the car from me for one day and guess who got a tint ticket?

Ticket price for tints went up drastically in chicago just a month or so ago. It went from $25 to $250 if I'm not mistaken.

I've gotten pulled over twice for no front plate and once for tint. I have 15 all around a GG. Each time I got a warning. Does anyone know if written warnings go into a database that they can pull up? I was suprised I got off on a warning the 2nd time on my no front plate.

I was pulled over last Saturday for no front plate. I told him the frame was damaged, which it actually was, and I was waiting on a new one to put it back on. He gave me a warning and didn't say anything about the tint.

I have a friend that has 35% all around and he never gets tickets for tints.

Me I have 5% and I just lower the windows any time I see a cop.

Only got 1 ticket though which im gona fight at court with "proof" that my tints are removed. uggh, **** happens cant say i wasnt warned haha
