Besides the obvious of Autobahn Country Club, check out Blackhawk Farms. It is about 30 minutes North of Rockford up at the IL/WI state line. The track puts on HPDE days about once a month where you do not have to be a member of any club to run. Check out the link below.

This is a very fun track to run and gain experience. Normally at these track days you get hours of track time per day. Even at $225/day this a good value for the amount of track time you would get.

Ok thank you! It seems to me that open track days are a little expensive though. Would auto-crossing be the best experience for the money?

AutoX might be a better value for the money if you are just starting out and looking to get to know the car. Open track lapping is SO much funner however!!!

Gingerman has mid-week test n tunes for $60; the track is usually dead and you can get a ton of experience.

Yeah i have always wanted to take lessons and learn the right way to race on a track. It sounds expensive though.

i recognize your name from the local board down there.

keep an eye on there horns always posts local(ish) hpde events. there is an autoX at coles county this weekend. talk to a few people down there and they will help you out. that is where i started. between rantoul, coles county, and the mossville site you should get your fill in central IL.

shoot me a PM either here or on CICE i can tell you who to talk to when you get there, but people are usually friendly. i will be autoXing at the sears center in schaumburg on the 11th and i am planning on being at the rantoul autoX on july 17th & 18th if you want to ride along for an event.
