Tires?
I've always just used a good set of all-seasons.
If I lived in WI, I might consider a set of Blizzaks, but snow doesn't stick around long enough down here to make it worth the hassle, IMHO.

If you ever plan on leaving the city or just can't miss that day of work get some snows. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/at...okian-kook.jpg
all seasons where made to work in all conditions, but they aren't optimized for any one condition. to maximize the performance and safety of your car, I recommend getting a set of snow tires. here is a test that tirerack did which shows the difference between allseasons and snowtires:

If you're broke, then a set of all seasons will last you. Just keep in mind that they aren't snow tires and you'll be fine. Since you live in Chi, you'll be fine. I heard the snow plows do their job quick unlike here...
I ended up getting a set of Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D XL.

can't go wrong with two sets of wheels/tires.
sure, the upfront investment is a bit more, but since you have two sets, they each wear at half the rate, so it's essentially a wash over time.
then again, you'll probably just get stuck behind some idiot in a rwd truck who should have replaced his tires 15k miles ago and not be able to go anywhere despite your improved traction :P

Dunlops.... used them while i was stationed in Germany onmy Audi.... loved them. they are also stiff walled and speed rated for those dry days to do some spirited driving.
Winter tires. I know chicago gets relitivly the same scale winters as we do here and sure the main drags will be plowed and driving on cement much like summer driving but off the beaten path (side streets and such) they are rarly touched.. I've had both all seasons and winters and the difference is 100 fold. The softer compound will not turn into a hockey puck when below 20F (i'm a canadian guy so 0c.. lol) The all season has been tested by tire rack to loose its "winter characteristics" after 0deg C..
aka- you bought an evo now treat it right with the only thing that touches the road... you're only as good as your tires just remember!
