We have been lucky; we've had the car since April '03, and have not been 'nabbed' yet for no front plate. Incidently, we just bought an '04 Lancer Sportback--pretty sweet! we're now a 2 Lancer family-- and they only issue, and have always ONLY issued a REAR temporary plate. If front and rear plates are required, why do dealers/the state only issue rear, and not both, front and rear, temporary plates?

I've been pulled over twice for speeding in my Evo, but I've never been cited for no front plate and I've had my car since July 2003. I can't say it's luck because if I were lucky, I wouldn't have gotten those 2 speeding tickets.

Having no front plate isn't an issue for me and I'm never bothered by it, but if it bothers you even a little bit, then just to have peace of mind, put it on. We've discussed this topic so many times already.

As for IL requiring a front plate, yes, it is the law if your car is registered in this state. Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

As far as the front plate being abolished next year, I highly doubt it because this state makes a lot of money manufacturing these plates. Whether or not this is true, I'm not really bothered by it.

Ha! Am I supposed to be scared? Please, save it. Like I said, I'm not bothered by it. I don't jump in my car everyday hoping that I don't get pulled over for not having a front plate. It's the least of my concerns. I have more important things on my mind than that.

YES BE VEEEEEERY SCARED

u could be parked and a cop can give u a ticket too

it all depends on yourself, it's not like u're gonna be paying 200 bucks + go to traffic school or court or anything. it's like a 50 dollar fine. if u want to risk that and want yor car to look better, go ahead and do it! and if u're the kind of person that doesn't want **** from the cops, then put your plates on! that's all there is to it..

After driving my white Evo 3 around for 3 years and having NEVER been pulled over for no front plate, I was a little surprised to be pulled over TWICE in 2 days in my red Evo 8 within 3 weeks of getting it. I got tickets for both but went to court with the plate zip tied to the grill and the judge sent a cop out to look and threw both tickets out. I promptly went out and cut the zip ties off and haven't been bother since... might have something to do with the color and the fact the cars were brand new and neither cop had seen one and seemed to be a bit curious.

It is illegal in Illinois to not have a front license plate on your bumper. I have talked to alot of local cops around the area and it is also illegal now to put the plate up on your front window. Cops were going to pull me over for having shaded license plate covers if I don't take them off . I guess it can be up to a $50 fine for shaded license plate covers in Illinois from what I am told. Who knows all cops are different anyways. I got pulled over for speeding in the town I was supposed to get tickets in for shaded plates and he didn't even say anything. Worst of all he broke my drivers license. Got me out of a $75 ticket though . Also they are putting in effect that seat belt tickets are going to be raised to $100 instead of $75.

Cops in other states also know which states require front plates. When I was driving through Utah in an Illinois plated car, I was pulled over because the front plate was not on since the mount was broken. Of course they pulled me over to see if they could find anything else wrong. Since I grew up in Illinois I always had 2 plates, but now that I'm in Indiana and only have the rear plate it sure does clean up the front end of a car.

If you don't have a license plate in the front don't even think about parking your car in downtown Chicago. My car was there for 10mins and cops already noticed it.

Sad news... The Police in Indiana want it to make it law to have front plates here too. They have pushed the last three years, but it looks like they might just get it done in 2006. I am really hoping that it does not get enforced! But hey, we are still lucky not to have to pass Inspections every few years. Gosh, how many of us would fear the inspector when they look for the Cats??? I know they would prob give me crap about my HID fog lamps from Japan not being DOT Approved.... Texas is really bad... You have to have the back plate, front plate, and a sticker visible on your windshield. Can we say overkill??? Heck, why don't thet just have us plaster the number on the front two fenders like on a boat? That way they can read the number from a distance.... It's just insane, they are making up stupid new rules just to make some extra money.

Yes, sorry I am a little angry about getting a ticket. I got a ticket for "Almost" running a red light! It was about 9 at night and I could see the cross traffic light was turning red so I did not slow down since my light would be green by the time I was to the intersection. I guess the cop behind me had a little bone to pick with us "Import Drivers". In his opinion, if the light was red while I was nearing it, I should have hit my brakes. How many of you watch the cross traffic lights to time if you will have to stop or if you can roll on through? Anyway I did go to court to fight it, and I did not have to pay the ticket, but I did miss a full day of work so in the long run, I did pay since the paycheck was shorted 8 hours...

I hate front plates they serve no usefull purpose. States that rely heavily on photo radar and such like Nevada and Arizona do not require front plates so I bet it is more of the money issue of paying to get two plates made rather then any sort fo saftey issue. Oh yeah and I have not had a front plate on any of my cars since I was 16 now 25 and I think I have gotten one ticket and it was while I was parked on the street over night.

But then again what does Czar Blagoivich know about saving money.
