Front License plate in IL?

I got a warning from a state cop to put on my front license plate in IL. Is it law here to have it on? Think they really care or just giving me a hard time? I was guessin the cop was on a training thing or something, there was another cop with her who just stood behind while she did stuff.

It's a law until 2005, but It'd still say he's just giving you crap. What about all those American cars w/ no plates in the front?(Vettes, Camaros, Firebirds)

I've had no plate for about 2 - 3 years and a Japanese plate on all spring and summer and haven't caught anything for it(I drive EVERYWHERE, and have the 121K+ mi to prove it :P)

funny people always mention the fbodies when we talk about front plates

I had a 95 z28 with no front plate and got pulled over 4 times, 1 ticket.

Had no front plate on the evo and I got two tickets while parked in wrigleyville in 3 weeks.

both plates ended up back on. I think part of my new years celebration is going to be taking my plate off and either pissing on it or dropping it off at a PD just for the satisfaction of it hm, maybe both...

so I've heard. And this time I think it's actually more than a rumor.

I got a warning as well for not having a front liscence plate while i was at parking at costco the stupid cop boxed me in and asked for my liscence and registration. The best part is that it was my birthday and when he gave me my warning he said happy birtday to me! Now was that not being dicky or what? So 2005 we don't need a plate is that for sure? Oh yea and if you plan to put on ur front plate like i did be aware that they do drill a hole in your front bumper! All you need is the top brackets and you can just put something soft to lift the bottom part of the licence plate!

I wanna know about this no front plate thingy in 05 as well. Last I checked it was required due to mainly oncoming traffic so a cop can call it in and for the fact that Laser Guns are best used against a front plate due to the flat surface area.

Keep us informed please....do you have any documents to back up your claim?

I'm just passing on what I've been told by people. No solid evidence though, sorry

It's the law now. I've gotten more than one ticket while parked on the street with no front tag. Go to the dealer and make them install the the plate, it'll cost about 30 bucks.

UPDATE: I tried calling the secretary of state to find out whether there was a new policy for front plates going into effect any time soon, but i couldn't get through to a real person. If anybody wants to call and wait forever on hold the number for the chicago loop office is 312.793.1010.

speaking from experience....IT'S THE LAW!

I wish I was let off with a warning. Stupid pigs and their monthly quotas! I got pulled over just last weekend for it~! I was minding my business, pig on my tail, then i see the lights. Cop gave me a $25 ticket...but I had the choice to set up a court date to show the judge a picture of the front of my car with my licence plate off and not have to pay the fine. As soon as I got home I just zip-tied my license plate to my front mesh. Actually looks pretty good.

Wut up with that 2005 rumor eh?
