09 Lancer 2.0 w/ K&N 69 Cold Air Intake
How's it going guys. I'm new here and i hope you lancer heads can help a guy out. So i got my lancer December 2011. So stoked for it and was really fast at first. Fast Acceleration and i would get pretty good launches.
My lancer has a CVT trans in it and i found out about it after i had bought the car. (Crappy thing if i say so myself, Would have loved a stick shift Lancer)
Anyways. I bought the K&N 69 Cold Air Intake about 2 months ago.
Loved it as soon as i put it in. Really nice deep tuner/muscle car sounds.
About 3 weeks ago, I noticed that my car was using up too much gas. A lot more than when i got it for the first time.
My question to you guys is,
What could the be making my car use up so much gas?
Any tips in making it faster? (Remember i have a CVT Trans)
Will tuning the Intake on the ECU of the car help?
ANY TIPS OR RECOMMENDATIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED
I just want to have a sick *** Lancer and fly through Chicago streets!

I am definately not an expert..
But - i think what might be causing more gas to be used is the fact that ur intake is no longer stock and enclosed in that black box under your hood which restricts air flow (also muffles the sound of the vehicle) -- Now.. when you install the intake.. it sucks in more air, the ECU compensates by throwing in more fuel into the mixture to burn evenly and as a result each time u punch the gas pedal u suck in more air + use more fuel.. try and keep the revs low.. under 2500... it shud extend the life of one tank... track it too ... do a month of testing on your vehicle.. how many clicks you get on a full tank... then switch out the new K&N intake for your stock one to see which gets you more kms/tank. Also, keep the variables low and keep a constant rev throughout the process, as constant as possible.. I have a K&N intake on my CVT auto - gets 550-580km a tank. enjoy reading lol

Thanks man, Really helped. Ive tried not doing more that 1500 Rpm's and ive seen a drastic change in how much fuel i burn. Would tuning it work way better? since the ECU is correctly tuned to know that i have a K&N Intake it would know exactly how much fuel to use and therefor save me gas?
As he said above more air = the ecu adding more fuel. Its already adding the right amount, you could tune it to add less but that would be costly/time consuming/ and you'd then be running lean. People are also more inclined to step on the gas harder to initiate the growl from the intake, which is obviously going to waste more.gas so driving style plays a big part as well.
