Any updates on the MR with SST?
Simply not true...the tranny had issues several months ago, but it has been resolved! They sell cars with the SST in both Japan and the U.K., there's no reason why they won't be selling them here. I have one on order at SCM and can't wait to pick it up (hopefully next month) and silence all of these tranny rumors!

I'm probably gonna go to Vividracing (or another tuner close to Nevada) and see what they say are within the "limits" of the SST. If possible, I'd like a dual TBE (a lil louder than stock), air intake, blow-off valve, upper and lower intercooler piping, and eventually get Robi-spec'd
I talked to Sam at South Coast on Thursday (27th), & he said just April. He also said that he will post the expected date, in the South Coast vendor's section, as soon as he finds out. So check that out every few days. As of yet, no new info.
Yeah true. I had a hold on one but removed it cause I found a 3000mile IX MR that was super clean/nice. Going to wait till next years model. 2009 Evolution X MR should be good.
This was interesting to me regarding the ability to increase power on SST-equipped vehicles. People have said that you would have to crack the TCM along with the ECU to increase power. Allegedly this was and still is a major problem for VW's equipped with the DSG tranny.
Here's a guy from Oz on EvoX forum who's pushing ahead with substantial power mods (intake/exhaust/ecu) on a JDM X MR and who also owns a GTi w/DSG:
... [a] 10% increase should be no problem as my Golf GTI DSG can handle an increase from stock 200ft-lbs to chipped 280ft-lbs (40%). My friends has 310ft-lbs on his GTI and it goes to limp mode sometimes, but after restarting the engine it's gone. Glad that GTI has a limp mode protection like that.
So, on the GTi's DSG, at least, somewhere north of 40% and south of 55% is the limit for torque increases that do not trigger protection mode. If the torque limit on the SST is within the same parameters or even as low as than 120% of stock, you could still get a substantial increase in power without going into protection mode.
Of course, none of this addresses the potential affect on long-term durability of the SST. I guess the possibility of having to replace an expensive tranny might be part of the risk you'd have to accept in exchange for increased power.

If anyone missed it from the other thread...
This guy from UK got a Evo X with SST already.

I picked it up yesterday afternoon (Saturday 29th).
The run in proceedure is a bit of a bastard on these cars.
0-200 miles: Not above 3500 rpm
200-500: Not above 4000 rpm
500-1000: Not above 4500 rpm
The dealer seemed to think the mechanics can check if you have followed the running in proceedure and he advised me very strongly to stick to it.
Drove to SW London and back which has put about 150 miles on it, was in 'normal auto' mode the whole of the way there (automatic is actually a godsend in London traffic) and only once when pulling out did the box let me down a bit by not actually doing a lot when I pressed the accelerator. I'm sure 'Sport' mode would sort that out no problem but the few times i've switched it to Sport, it's been quite keen to rev to 5000+ rpm.
Got 24mpg on my way back home which was at least 45 minutes of slow moving London traffic so it's not too hideous in that respect. I also used the Trip Computer on the Media Centre to set a 'laptime' to work. It's approx 12 miles and takes 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. Again, drove fairly subdued and got 27.4mpg which I am happy about, seeing as I am now poor and it costs £1.10 per litre of Tesco 99 RON....
Haven't had a chance to really test out the true purpose of the car, i.e. to go very fast and carry obscene speeds through corners, but I did put another 50 miles on it this afternoon when I took it out for a spin on some country roads I know quite well. Again it was all done in 'Normal' auto setting but I came to a roundabout and went straight over and the road holding and grip was brilliant. Just need to get some miles on it ASAP so I can unleash some POWER. It also gave me an excuse to visit some scenic locations to take some pictures, though it was raining yesterday so my loverly clean car is already a bit dirty. Theres some pictures below, but I need to clean it up and show it off properly.
Never had so many people gawp at a car before either, but as expected it's generally the men. Even had someone hanging out of a passenger window to get a better look!
Loving the Rockford Fosgate system as well, didn't realise it played DVD's! Not sure about that Sub though, the poor passengers in the back couldn't hear a thing and yet in the front the sound volume was fairly low. Think I just need to fiddle with the settings.
Sorry I haven't been able to give many driving impressions but theres not much to say about straight motorway & slow moving town journeys. And my countryside jaunt was all a bit subdued. Gimmie a week or so and i'll have another 800 miles on it and will be able tp put the hammer down properly and give some real opinion on it, but as it stands I am absolutely made up, it's great!
