Does the SST ever shift itself?

Trying to confirm this after reading a few conflicting stories. When in manual mode, if you stay in a gear beyond redline, does the tranny:

A) keep bouncing of the rev limiter until you upshift
B) upshifts itself shortly after redline

Reason I ask, is the DSG in my R32 will upshift for me if you go beyond redline in manual mode

It's a safety feature says my local dealer.

It's a bad excuse, says your local Hibby. If you have a traditional manual transmission, do you get an automatic upshift when you run the engine out beyond redline? If anything, it hinders performance driving.

i think in normal and sport mode, it will upshift after it bounces off the redline for a bit
( im pretty sure in normal mode it will upshift, not too sure about sport mode.

I am pretty sure in S-Sport mode or Super sport mode, it will not upshift and bounce off the red-limiter.

Check this video out. The tranny seems to shift by it self even in S-Sport mode.

It should shift for you as long as ASC is on; i.e. when you hold ASC off until the ding, it's all up to you.

in ~6 months time you will be able to tune your TCM that controls that feature, the redline, and smother shifts (for chipped+ cars).

I do agree it is gay, but what'cha gonna do.

SST in manual mode doesn't shift automatically .. it'll bounce at the rev limiter until you shift manually .. IN WHATEVER mode .. be it normal, Sport, or S-Sport .. be it ASC on /off / All off

My understanding is that in manual mode, it will only downshift when coming to a stop, but will never upshift for you.

The TC-SST transmission will NOT upshift for you in manual mode no matter what your settings are (Normal, Sport, S-Sport, ASC On/Of, etc). It will however downshift as you're coming to a stop; otherwise it's all up to you.

This is unlike VW's DSG which will still control shifts for you once you start bouncing off the redline. I've played with both (a friend of mine has a GTI) and the differences are very clear.
