I have about 17k on my car. I pretty much always drive it in Sport manual. Sometimes when i want to go quick on the highway, I will slap it into auto and floor it. Did this the other night and I was bouncing off the rev limiter in 4th. Not the first time it has happened to me. Im not overly concerned, but its pretty odd it doesnt shift when in Sport.

fyi - I'm preety sure evos come with Mobil 1 (or at least synthetic) from the factory, hence the sticker.

The RA's come with Dyno oil,,,,, which is something I would have liked to know since I did my first oil change at 4k.... thinking they had put synthetic in there.

can anyone confirm it 100%?

Bouncing in 4th is a bit odd. At was RPM does it actually begin the shift? I almost never floor it in Auto because I've noticed I can shift much later and get into a better tq point in the next gear, actually chirping 2nd at times.

I wasnt paying very close attention. I dont do it very often either and typically always drive in manual. It was pretty obvious that it was doing it though. I was in 6th, cruising. Moved the shifter into auto and hit the gas. Transmission down shifted to 4th and bounced 3 or 4 times before shifting. Sorry I cant be of more assistance.

Sport or normal? did you begin acceleration before the shifter was fully in D? Was it still downshifting when u mashed the pedal? Are you tuned at all or running and stage maps? If you mashed the pedal while it was still downshifting, that is part of the problem (it's happened to me).

I've never head this problem, norm, sport or S-sport auto mode, but you can redline it in manual mode... Mitsu didn't put anylimits on it

Sport. The downshifting (to 4th from 6th) happened as a result of me mashing the pedal. If I didnt mash, it would have likely just downshifted to 5th. I'm not tuned at all yet. Just intake and uicp right now.

With stage 2 in my car it will bounce off the limiter 4-5 times in first, and once or twice in second to third shift. Manual mode seems to be the only way it won't bounce off, and even then if you don't shift mad early you still have a good chance of doing it.

I have seen the same behavior in my Evo X MR a couple of times as well and was thinking of having the limiter raised to 8k (leaving the shift point stock) to give the trans time to shift before bouncing off the limiter. Any thoughts? Has anyone tried this yet?

Just trying see if anyone else has had this happen.
I notice this happening to me. It doesn't happen often... but it always surprises me when it does. When it happens... it's always the 1-2 shift where the car will bounce off the rev limiter. At first I would get freaked out... back off the throttle and then continue driving. But this week it happened to me... I kept my foot on the throttle... and the car bounced off the rev limiter and then shifted smoothly.

So is there anything to be concerned about here at all? Or the car will deal with it and adapt to not bounce off the rev limiter? Technically the rev limiter is a protection device for the engine anyways right? So this shouldn't damage the car?
