SST Rev limiter bounce

Anyone else experience this:

Driving normal auto mode, switch to sport auto mode and gun it. SST gets really angry and bounces the revlimiter a couple times before shifting.

Just trying see if anyone else has had this happen.

rev limiter

I can bounce mine off the rev limiter in sport mode all day. I noticed it first on the test drive. It does it from 1st to 2nd, and less so from 2nd to 3rd. If I put it in S-Sport, it does the exact same thing. Seems to me that Mitsu should have set the shift point about 150 rpm sooner, so the shift would get off in time to avoid that bounce, but who knows. The car has padles if I don't like where its shifting, I can shift it my self.

On a side note, the salesman nearly cried during the test drive when I exclaimed "hey, the red line on this tach is apparently meaningles, cause we're shifting 500rpm over it..."

Maybe you had to be there.

mine adapted, it VERY rarely does that anymore, the more you drive it hard, the more it learns how to shift right under hard driving
and if you are making more power then stock, its gonna take alot more time to learn

Great Feedback, I'm still learning how "*****y" this car is. much like it's owner these cars are great, I wonder if there is anyway to get the MR programming into the RA...... Hmmm food for thought .
All and all though, I absolutely love the SST - especially as a Daily driver.

So.... when I drive my car like I stole it, I'm not really beating on it, I'm teaching it. Honest.

Ya, as people have said. It sometimes needs to learn the new shift points under hard driving. Happened to me when I first tuned my car for more power.

This happens to me quite often, usually in 1st or 2nd gear.

off topic a bit

I sure did. Drive it off the trailer, and its broke in. I also bought that same car, so I am putting my money where my mouth is.

This theory is not based on gibberish. It is based on the fact that the sooner the engine is broken in the better. What is more important than being gentle, is variation of rpm, and decelerating as well as accelerating throughout the rpm range, and avoiding prolonged periods of steady rpm operation.

The reason that manufacturers have some other recomended break in procedure, is that they operate on the theory that most consumers are to stupid to understand things like ring seating, cylinder wall glazing, bearing wear in, gear face hardening etc. Rather than explain all of that, they just tell you to take it easy on it, and figure that every day normal driving, will take care of the rest.

That being said, if you have an engine rebuilt, break it in the way the builder tells you to. Rebuilt is not the same as manufactured (Usually). However, when I built engines for people, I told them to drive it like they stole it, and change the oil after the first 100 and 500 miles or so, and no synthetics till after 3k. (Though I do wonder what exactly Mitsu puts in their cases, since there is a mobile 1 decal on the engine)

I'm betting the Mobil 1 sticker is their Recommended oil, I'm willing to bet they don't throw it in from the factory. eitherway breakin now-a-days is pretty much obsolete. I went a head and changed my oil at like 500 miles, cause I dont trust the dealerships or factory. I did 2 changes with Castrol Syntech then moved to Mobile 1.

Sorry back on topic, I have a bad tendency to "Beat" my cars, If this one's computer can "Learn" oh..... I'll Teach it then.

Nice

back on topic.

At 1600 miles, it still bounces off the rev limiter between first and second, but it does seem like it is "learning" how to shift. This in itself would be okay, but now I'm afraid to drive it nice, in case it also learns how to granny shift...
