chattter/knocking

i searched but no one really had an answer...well i noticed it as i was cruising at 40-45mph in 6th gear...sounded almost like clutch chatter and only happened while i pressed on the accelerator..it didnt get faster as speed increased so i down shifted and once i put my foot on the gas it chatters and then goes away as you get above 3-3.5k rpm...happened to me in 4th 5th and 6th..i got off the main road and came to a stop sign and the down shift was very lumpy. i got on the gas hard and it shifted fine 1-6..after that there was no chatter but i feel like it was because the car was fully warmed up now. and ideas guys? i have just under 16k miles on it.

Hrm, I'm not completely convinced it is the transmission. If you're pressing the accelerator and the car is moving, it can't be the clutches themselves.

When you say the downshift was lumpy, can you describe that a bit more?

Sounds more like something else is rattling to the tune of the engine RPMs. Like maybe the exhaust heat shield or something (had mine come loose at one point, and it made some noise, but more around 5k)

yea when i slowed down to a stop usually the rpms stay up like its still in gear but it dropped to around 1k rpm and didnt know what to do. when i hit the gas again there was a delay and it was a hard shift and jerk forward with a lot of clunking. the thing is though it doesnt seem as noticeable after the car is warmed up. but overall ive noticed the car acting differently in regards to shifting. could it just be the tranny being cold? i can also feel the chatter in the gas pedal which is concerning me

Replacing the filter makes a world of difference. SSP recommends replacing it every 10k miles, and after looking at mine (@26k miles), I have to agree.

found the problem today...went under the hood and saw that the heat shield was loose so i went to tighten the bolts but they were already...so i was walking around and looking under the car and noticed my lug nuts looked odd...i had my wheels rotated when i got my tc fluid changed and the damn mechanic didnt tighten 3 of the 5 lugs! always check guys never trust anyone!! so took it around the block and the noises are gone. thank god i caught that before something bad happened
