i am having problems when i reverse out of a parking spot and shift into drive.

if i shift from reverse to d too fast the car usually stalls.

the car is completely stopped when i am shifting.


anyone else having similar issues or know whats going on?

 

Put more gas into it and don't drop the clutch too fast. Ease it in.

actually. when i took it to a dealer a week ago they couldnt find anything wrong...

might try again or try a different dealer.



also, so everyone else can just reverse out of a parking spot and shift to D as soon as the car stops?

for me it either stalls or the rpms drop a ton... to like 300

 

Haven't tried from a complete stop in R -> D. Mine changes fine from R -> D while I'm still slightly rolling backwards however (is this doing any damage to the gearbox by still rolling back slightly?)

 

I doubt it, the clutches are just barely slipping and don't engage suddenly. I've never heard of a manual transmission being damaged from rolling back a few mph and starting forward, as long as you're smooth with it, and the SST has a lot of similarities to a regular MT.

 

I never notice my revs getting erratic when shifting between reverse and drive. I'm guessing you couldn't make it happen again infront of the dealer? That always seems to be the case.

I hope the dealer finds something... because the car should always manage revs and the clutch so you're not stalling.

I took the car to the dealer a month or so ago and they tried to fix it.

they cleaned a bunch of parts but couldnt figure out the issue.

they just said something like "oh well"

they also want to just wait an see if mitsubishi will release some sort of reflash to fix this.



i doubt they can/will fix it.

not sure what to do. i have about 1-2 years left on the warranty.

 

I think the TCU is designed to slowly engage reverse because of temperature and to preserve the clutch/transmission

right in the morning on the way to work I usually experience this (along with a few sluggish gear changes), but when it's warmer at the time to go home, it's fine.

 

op does this happen in the morning when the engine is first fired up?
