i always use N before slamming it into D..find tis tranny isnt like anyother automatic where while still rolling backwards u can throw in d..itll slip and then go in as u slow down fully. Use N..come to a stop..then D..simple solution..and saves everything

I took the car to the dealer a month or so ago and they tried to fix it.
they cleaned a bunch of parts but couldnt figure out the issue.
they just said something like "oh well"
they also want to just wait an see if mitsubishi will release some sort of reflash to fix this.
i doubt they can/will fix it.
not sure what to do. i have about 1-2 years left on the warranty.

sounds like an electronic issue car's not compensating in rpms for the gear change from R to D or softward issue maybe. As long as you're stopped you should be able to go from R to D with no issues. I do it every day in cold/warm weather with no issues. Now If I'm moving the slightest bit backwards it will stall. You really did all you could though. As long as the dealer documented it even if you're out of warranty I would assume if it gets worse they will cover it since the problem was a pre warranty expiration existing condition.
There are so many parts on this trans and the dealer is soo ill trained on them it's hard to get little issues like that fixed.

the delay is most likely there due to software trying to "engage - disengage" the synchros very smoothly, so they don't get overworked causing more wear than it has to. It's not like an slush-box automatic where you just throw it in D and go.

I haven't had it happen going from Reverse to drive, but sometimes if I don't let the car warm up enough when I go to put it into reverse from Park it will sit there and and the letter will start blinking as well as on the display between the gauges. and it takes a little bit into engage into gear. that is the only odd thing I have noticed with my tranny.
