I bet Jeremy at SSP can answer that. I have the 600 hp kit. I have right at 400 tq, 300 at 7k rpm I'm having no issues

your torque limit is 400ftlbs .. regardless of what you use as clutches ..

stock clutches hold up to 400ftlbs ..

is this because, the SST will auto open the clutches past 400FT of TQ

The limit is the least of the worries .. the gearbox will not allow you anywhere near that

there are other reasons why the clutches open ..

overheating, pressure, predicted overheat (which is what most of the people experience here)

Predicted overheat measures the delta T during acceleration or high power .. and if that value exceeds a preset limit .. the clutches open up with no indications ..

So we still don't know what is limiting us completely yet? Is this because the tgif has not been completely yet figured out.

Hrmmm
so I've been running stock clutches with my FP Red on 93, with SSP front mount cooler
i have the 500hp ones sitting in a box at home
i track the car regularly (road course)

I'm doing a 2.2 build and will be running E85
and was thinking of getting the 500hp clutches put in while I'm at it
should i not bother then? and just wait for the stock ones to burn out?

do you ever launch the car? Just wondering if they are still holding up under that type of pressure with that turbo?

^ no, i never launch it. No autoX, just road course stuff so i guess i look after the gearbox to some extent.

with the Red on 93 it holds up great.
I'm just worried with the Red + E85 on a 2.2 that it might not, with the extra torque.
I don't want to run it up on the dyno, after having had everything out of the car, to find out that i should have installed the clutchpacks when i had the chance to save a lot of $$$ on labour.

Do you have some proof of this statement? I know several MR's over 400 tq that don't suddenly have the tranny shutdown or open as you claim. And on Mustang dynos no less.

When the sentence is started with " is this because" i figure it was an odvious question

do you have some dyno graphs of an SST above 400TQ?

The limit that we all know about is 370 CRANK torque....yet it seems that this is just a safety value and that guys are running WAY above this (obviously, if you're putting 400 to the WHEELS you're FAR above 400 Crank). The BIGGEST thing you can do is the trans cooler. If the open clutch thing is legit, then even if you do the upgraded clutches and STILL exceed it the clutches won't matter. That's news to me and makes no sense, however that's probably just a map somewehre that needs to be found and edited.

YOUR dyno torque <> gearbox torque ..

MOST ACCURATE dyno = engine dyno = ACTUAL flywheel hp ..

most people forget that these 'roller' machines are just tools .. an attempt to 'SIMULATE' road conditions ..

they don't suddenly open up like you say because pressure holding the clutches are not constant .. so it will feel similiar to slipping clutches on the manuals .. rpm fluctuating up and down ..

i own a ralliart and recently put in the 600hp clutch packs and i was just wonderin if it was normal for the car to drive rough when they are first put it. like a few gears kinda bang in and 3rd to 4th slips a b i only put about 100 miles on the clutches so far. i know im not an evo but im just tryin to find some answers.
