Was doing the tap around 3k rpm ,and when I let of the brake and punched it the sst disengaged and got a warning transmission overheated. I wasn't doing anything before that would cause it, just changed the tranny fluid, and this was my third to ever launch the car. 19k miles and light mods. Anyone knows what's causing it? Eventually I will do some tranny cooling mods, but I don't think this should have happened regardless. Also when I shifted to neutral and back to drive it worked fine again.

Pretty normal for SST's to do strange things on launch, regardless of method. Mine gets that message every so often at the drag strip.

This has happened to me once or twice by not getting off the brake quick enough. Try doing it without the brake or very minimal brake pressure. You don't actually need to be on the brake at all to launch it, but the car will roll a bit forward while your tapping...maybe a foot or two. Try it and you will see what I mean, if it doesn't work it is because you aren't tapping quick enough!
