sst help; lost even gears. p1833 cel

Hey guys

I need some help. My car has been getting some transmissions issues where the sst will lose even gears. the yellow service required sign will come up. when i plug in my innova code reader i get a 1833 cel. it says "shift fork position 4 sensor (output range) or something like that.

i've been searching for answers but can't find anything relative to my issue.
it typically occurs soon after start up and will go away after i restart my car.

does anyone know anything about this specific code?
i have heard that the maf or a relay may be responsible.

but i don't know anything about the the relay

please advise thanks all

What are your mods, mileage of the car, and when did this happen?

Thanks

its pretty much stock. i haven't tracked it and PO didn't either.
its pretty well maintained as well.

its happened to me about 3 times now. twice after a 20 minute drive. this morning after about 2 minutes.

Hmm, the shift forks are pretty tough in the SST's. The only thing I can think of are the seals leaking and causing low internal pressure.

So the unit will need to be opened up to check this?

Nah I'm still getting this. In fact I got it today. Happens so randomly. I'm going to try to flush the Trans fluid.

I have a loose theory that there may be a build up of metal by the magnets and it may be interfering with some sensors. Maybe or maybe not. Just some guess after reading jack's transmission write up.

I had mitsubishi look at my car but because it didn't happen while they Test drove it they didn't do squat for me.
I hope someone can chime in on this.

I read another cell description for this and it described a Solenoid failure in the transfer case?

My problem seems to be getting worse. I had one occurrence Tuesday. And yesterday it happened twice back to back. I fortunately have an aftermarket warranty but we will see how good that will fair.

I will try to keep this updated with any info I have so that it may help the next person. Its disheartening to know that such a major repair may be imminent on my car which has been very well cared for for and respected.

Here is what I have found so far on this code.
Looks like standard protocol would be to replace the tyranny.

Had Mitsu dealer check integrity of the can bus, they told me no faults... Not gonna pay them 9 grand to put a new unit in. Close enough to shep to tow it to have him work his magic... Worse case plus clutch upgrade he ballparked me about 5 grand. Really makes me think twice if the gtr's tranny is gonna be this bad, do I really want one?!?!?

Clutches or seals are going man. Whole trans doesn't need opened, like Jason from SSP said though probably a seal not holding pressure. What i did is remove trans, removed clutch basket, and sent it off to SSP for them to put in cluthes and seals. Granted you have a stock'ish car so you dont need high hp clutches or anything, unless you shredded your oem ones ( could be possible)

Good news, they can replace your seals, or if its clutches, can do OEM / upgraded clutches and very easy to deal with. Give SSP a call.

info on removing clutch basket is in their 600hp install PDFs on their webpage.

I've got the same problem and after weeks of searching I think the Tcu SSt is effed and after replacing my clutch packs, another $2500 will go down the drain.

Ps. Part number 2800A135 for those looking.

So you replaced th clutch packs and it still does that?

I talked to jacks and they said its either a sensor or the clutches or burnt.
I don't drive my card that hard or launch it. So I'm puzzled.

My car now is consistently doing this in a pattern. It will malfunction after the car has been running for about 20-30 minutes - Every time I drive the car now.
Seems after the trans warms up, something isn't right.

So I've taken my bolt ons off and I'm going to see if my warranty will cover it.
