TC-SST Fluid Change - Filter Question
So I had the dealer change my TC-SST fluid last weekend.
I asked over the phone and again in person about changing the filter. the paper plastic disposable drop in one for the TC-SST.
The service foreman and manager both said that it is no longer considered a serviceable item. In other words no longer needs to be replaced.
I am not entirely ecstatic about spending $100 for a paper filter but at the same time if it is the right thing to do it needs to be done. Any input on this one guys?
The dealer service dept. has been great thus far and quite reasonable on their prices considering I rent an apartment, have no access to a garage or time
.
We are on first name basis, they cut me a discount every time, in and out earlier than my appointment etc.
On this point however I am not so sure and wanted some 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinions.
2012 MR at 32K miles.

You'd be wise to change it, but ultimately that decision is up to you and your dealership. If you trust them, take their advice; if you want the peace of mind, have them change it.

Kozmic is in town and sells the filter element for about a 1/3 the price or the re- usable one for the same price as
charges for their disposable element. Might be time for a visit soon.

I was taking my car to Gillman on I-45@FM1960. They told me the same thing. Gillman and Kozmic are about the same distance from my house. Needless to say, after one trip to Kozmic, I haven't been back to the dealership.

dealer in town. BTW I am over in Cypress, where are you?
Why would they put a paper, obviously disposable filter in the car and then never change it. Pure stupidity. A little kid would have more common sense than that. I wouldn't not do the obvious right thing banking on a promise of a warranty. Just take care of your equipment. I use a ssp reusable filter and change my fluid every 10-15k miles.
The only filter you can change in the transmission without opening the case is the external filter. Mitsubishi saying they are going to back an Evo with a life time power train warranty is not very re-assuring to me. They are well known to revoke Evo owners warranties over the smallest thing. The transmission costs $10k. In 5 years replacing the transmission will cost half the value of the car. Treat it like the expensive component it is, and maintain it like your life depends on it. Your bank account will thank you later.
