Please Diagnose my TC-SST
Please Diagnose my TC-SST
Two full seasons of auto-crossing has taken its toll. It started with failures with launch control. Basically, the car would not engage 1st gear soon enough, resulting in a “transmission overheat” warning and the car disengaging the clutch. I diagnosed the issue as a failing clutch and would release the launch control sooner to allow the car the engage 1st gear before the error. I knew it would need replacement. This situation started to get worse though. Now if I try to put the car into Super-Sport mode, I hear a loud whine coming from the engine bay when decelerating in 1st gear. I eventually stopped putting the car in that mode. After this occurred, the next day, after the car warmed up, the “odd” clutch stopped working altogether, and the car would only shift into the even gear. This occurred twice and then…just stopped occurring, hasn’t happened in four months. The car appears to not be acting up but that’s only because I have not been pushing it. When in first or second gear, I hear loud “thunks” coming from the front of the car, especially when shifting between reverse and 1st and when shifting between 1st and 2nd. Further, I also hear lighter thunks, when pushing down the pedal in 1st and 2nd gear.
Is any of this questioning the build or quality? No, I did all this and have several options before me. What concerns me is that I have no local Mitsubishi dealership and the nearest tuner is 800 km away. One option is to have a local place remove my transmission and then pay the $1700 shipping both ways to Jacks LLC for them to work on it. However, I have been receiving a lot of advice to purchase either the Stage 2 or Stage 2 SSP Transmission packages and have Vex Performance in Calgary handle the work. From Jacks to Vex’s upper quote, I am looking at between $6000 and $8000 cdn for the work. I am not wealthy but have some set aside. The issue is that I need to know if the SSP Stage 1 will fix my problems or whether I need the Stage 3. Also, I am looking for advice if Jacks LLC is superior or inferior to the SSP packages. If replacement clutches would fix my problem, I would just get the Stage 1 SSP with Vex. Any advice would be invaluable.
OH...I also have a Rocket Rally Turboback exhaust with a COBB tune.

Auto cross tends to be tough on the clutch basket because of all the full on/off. It the clutch acts up, the trans acts up. You likely only have a clutch issue. You can ship Kozmic just the basket rather than the entire transmission. The instructions for removing just the basket are here:
