Mechatronic Unit

Hello, I have a stock 2013 Evo MR and recently experienced a problem perhaps you can help shed some light on. The car will slip out of gear into neutral while driving. I took to the dealer and they found the following code....P2733 and said the mechatronic unit will need to be replaced.

Anyone have similar problem in the past? Is the mechatronic untit usually prone to failure and is there anything that can be done to help alleviate this problem in the future?

"mechatronic"sounds like a generic term. Will they do it for free since your car sounds like it's still under warranty?

I'm waiting to hear whether it will be covered. Apparently they need to compare some numbers from the ECU with Mitsu to see if it's been modified before they'll pay for it.

Then you have nothing to worry about.
Except, maybe, gremlins. They are known to modify stock cars for fun while the owners sleep unsuspectingly at night.

This happened to mine, mitsu swapped out the unit and gave a fresh change of sst fluid under warranty. Had to fill out a "mod questionnaire" as well before they did the work.

Supposedly a $2k+ part!

The word mechatronic refers to the valve body and solenoids that control the SST. It is indeed a 2xxx$ part. I'm not entirely sure if the TCM is part of that or not.

The TCM is integrated into the mechatronic assembly. The hydraulic portion of the mechatronic is the valve body. They list for $2500. I over haul them.

What's your cost to overhaul one?

I was wondering what @Kozmic27 even means by "overhaul"? Last I heard it was a replace not repair kind of part?

People have been repairing valve bodies since the first automatic transmissions in the 1950's. The problem with this one is the availability of parts. I have more valve body parts than any one in the world besides Getrag. Sometimes the valve body does need to be replaced, but over 90% of the ones removed are repairable.

Hey Kozmic,
I've currently got my SST in pieces in the garage and think my issue resides in the valve body. I'm missing R, 1, 3, and 5th gear. I've checked and cleaned shift fork sensors, changed internal filters, and even reinstalled and reflushed the tranny to see if it solved the issue, and it did not.

I'm thinking the issue is in the solenoids. Are you willing to work with me and sell me parts?

If you have other insight of where the problem might be, I'd love to go into a little more detail. Any info is great, as I have hit a dead end with trying to contact dealers, performance shops, Jack's, and even Getrag themselves, with little info back and no help on specific parts.

P.s. I will say that Jack's has been the most helpful with trying to help determine my problem and troubleshoot.

Thanks.

Hi Ryan! Did you solve your problem? I had the same problem (missing 1-3-5-R but after a couple of teach-ins and sst oil changes I got this
"limp mode") and i'm about to take the transmission apart
