Advice - Rebuild the SST or sell the car?

Good to know about the torque damper failures by year. Also, I had assumed the price to convert to a 5 speed would be more than the rebuild of the SST. Not to mention all the work to convert it.
I called Mitsu to get a price for the teach-in ($250). Spent a while on the phone with the guy. He was very straightforward about the reliability of the SST. Said fluid should be changed every 15-20k miles, not every 30k. At 30k intervals, you're looking at getting 80k miles out of the trans. Shorten that to 15-20k and you can get 100k miles from it. I drive ~25k miles a year, so that's a $500 tranny fluid change every 8-10 months or so.
To me it's unacceptable for Mitsubishi to sell a vehicle with a trans that's only good for 80k-100k miles. I understand it was provided by Getrag, but they should have done some long-term testing prior to using this gearbox, and should have discovered the poor lifespan (among other issues) that the SST had.

i did 3 oil and filter changes at almost 200000 miles and she still shifts fantastic in all modes!!
in insurance language your car is totaled and not worth it to fix

I ahve an 08 MR with ~88k miles and I am calling it quits on it after the tranny and t-case went out on me. Its about 2500-3000 for a used tranny of unknown condition. Not to mention the differences in "y" code vs non "y" code trannys that can cause fitment issues. On top of that my blown t-case which is another 1000 for a used t-case. Plus labor. To many uncertainties for me to consider rebuilding anything.
