Is 2003 last year for EVO WRC?
I agree with Street Lancer
let's get real, who really beyond true enthusiasts enjoys rally over here? No one. You say rally, and they more often than not associate "gumball" than WRC.
I try to talk to my friends about rally, or GT racing and all they no is the 1/4 mile. I try to tell them about the Lancer or about the Skyline and all they no is Vette's and Mustangs

Hey Claudius, why don't you apply as driver for Mitsubishi. I'll co-drive for you. Maybe we can even take turns driving.

WRC is also joining F1 in a new points system to try to make it harder for one team to dominate (unless Peugeot takes top 3 spots in every rally), but we'll see how that goes.
Discussing whether or not it is a good business move to pull the Evo from rallying, first forget the word rallying. Most people in the states do not know anything about rallying. Most people don't know anything about F1 either, but they know Ferrari cars kick ***. It's all in the marketing of it. If you look at say, Audi they talk about their racing-past, present, and future-and how they take their race knowledge and put it into their production cars (quattro, 5 valve cylinders, etc) People want to buy it because its proven in the lemans series and they brag about it.
Mitsubishi can say "yea, we have some race cars, but they never do better than 7th, and we don't ever change much to the engine eventhough we don't have enough torque to keep up with the others, and our drivers can't stay on the road because our traction control only works if you are full throttle, and none of this matters because the us lancer is about 1/4 of the racing evo, BUT I can put you in this bad-boy for $16,000."
Mitsubishi is missing out on something here. You can't buy a puegot, citroen, or skoda here. You can't buy anything close to what ford and hundai are racing. But look at subaru. They sell a car that is roughly close to what they race and they are getting rave reviews because it wins races and they brag about it. Meanwhile, we're all looking at mitsubishi like WTF, cut the foreplay, take your viagra and give us the real deal.
Tell me if I'm wrong, but it seems logical that if they cut the evo from WRC, they will lose a potential market share from 2003-? and we won't be able to buy a colt, but if we were, it would be a 3 cylinder.

That would suck if they do join the bandwagon of the hatches on WRC. Only few sedans are left standing. But you know what they should really do is reimplement the old homologation rule, ala Evo 6 TME.
The colt doesn't look too bad anyway, it just sucks we'll never get to drive one on public roads:
