Whoa do these cars handle like crap. Extremely tail happy for a FWD - just turn in early and brake and ride the slide...

Just to answer your question: Because just like any other person who Auto-X's their machine, they want to see what it can do at its limits, as well as themselves. Good pics though.

Haha, it was really a rhetorical question... I had a blast driving the thing round the track. Last time I went it was with my 11 second Mustang, and I think I had more fun in the Lancer than the Stang. I particulalry like the first photo where I'm heading off the track after unsuccsessfully trying to drift the car through the corner . Next time I go it should be in an Evo 8 if all things work out.

Actually, after buying my OZ I realized the ES might have been a better choice for autocrossing. It's lighter weight, and if you're gonna upgrade the rims and tires and suspension, why not start with the base model? Now I'm replacing the rims and rear sway bar I paid an extra $1000 for anyway. Still like the looks of my OZ though, but that was a though.

Hey UFO. There is an SCCA Autocross this Sunday at Houston Raceway Park. Are you going to be there? I know wizardofoz will be racing his OZ Rally Lancer there. I won't be racing because my car is sold, but I will be there to watch.
I'm also curious what dealer you are getting your Evo from. I never did get much from Houston dealers. I am getting mine out of town.

UFO,

Where were those autocross pics taken? As stated above I will be at the event this weekend. My wife is going to drive also. Unfortunately it looks like it is going to rain. Should still be fun just a little slower. Will be a good chance to check out the limits for wet roads.

OT: Congrats on selling your car TIUS. Now I see why you were more disappointed with the delay in the arrival of the EVOs.

Houston Raceway Park? You don't mean HRP, as in the dragstrip, right? Anyway, no I won't be there - I hate cones . Plus, I had to replace both front tyres after my little fun in the car last weekend, and I fly to England on Sunday too... As for dealer - dunno if I'm even getting an Evo yet. I am currently self employed and my temporary gig has gone on a lot longer than expected. My immediate boss has made comments to the partners that he wants me on full time but they have not given an answer. Until they do, there will be no car notes for me. If it all works out then the guy who posts here from the dealership in Fort Worth will probably get my money. The Houston dealers can kiss my hairy .

The paictures were taken at the old blimp base over in Hitchcock. Me and my Mustang buddies rented the track for the day.

How much is it to rent the track out at the blimp base? Sounds like fun.

The event is on Sunday at the Sam Houston Race Park, the horse track.

It costs $600 for the day, but you also need to have your own insurance (I think we paid $1500 for the year). The place is in the middle of nowhere and you need to provide your own track workers and timers etc.

As for suspension work on the ES - not going to happen. I bought the car for the wife, but sold my Mustang at the same time and have been driving it until I find something more fun, like the Evo 8 .

The ES actually has more suspension options, like adjustable shocks, more spring choices, and more brake rotor options. I think it'd be the best Lancer to choose for autocross if you're planning on doing upgrades.
