do what Norris Design did to their evo 9. convert to 2dr. that would shave a lot of pounds, but will get you spending a lot of money

I think one person mentioned it, but lighter weight exhaust and no cats can drop 30-40lbs, headers, rotors, wing.

Inside door panels and associated hardware, glove compartment, dash pieces.

Lightweight seats and rails..etc etc etc

You can also swap out the stock front strut tower brace for something lighter, there are Ti versions available...

Have you had your car on a scale yet? I was shocked how light mine was (relatively speaking) removing the contents of the trunk & glove box, mini battery, no cat and about a 3/4 tank of gas

I think we're talking about losing weight for a road course here guys, not a drag strip. The trunk area has easy weight loss potential but the problem is in the front.

We also already covered the fuel issue, why would you want to go out with less than a full tank? I get about 4.5~5 mpg on the track and in 20mins I can burn through a half tank.

Got to admit though that when that tank starts getting low your lap times really start dropping.

one thing you guys havent mentioned.. I didnt actually weigh the mirrors on the evo, but they felt at least 3x 4x heavier then the apr CF mirrors that I replaced them with. Ill weigh the stock mirrors when I have a chance. My guess is that is was close to a 20lbs reduction off the front end.

anybody know how much the speakers weight? especially the rear ones. that should be some good weight loss right there.

Everytime I take my cars to the track I always weight them on the scale.

I currently drive a EVO 8 MR. I have seen the official weight from the manufacturer and I believe it is around 3265LBS just a hair below the regular GSR.

Well, I have done some stuff to my car and last time I took it to the track it was 3136LBS, lets review how I got there:

gas tank less than 1/8 gas
spare tire removed
floor mats removed
rear wood piece and carpet above the rear spare tire removed
Buschur mini battery kit
Buschur upper pipes
AMS lower pipes
cat removed
full exhaust 3" TB wich I think it shaves around 25LBS
cone air filter

I guess you can go more hardcore(removing the rear wing or seats) but I am very happy with it. If you have the budget then get yourself a nice set of lighter rotors and lighter rims, this could shave you easily 50LBS all together..

I think in a ideal scenario I could be in the 3100 lbs flat if I go to the track with even less gas.

That was my opinion. By the way, my WRX with tons of upgrades weighted 3042 LBs with almost no gas and my GSX 91 AWD weighted 3110LBS so I guess the Evo is not that but considering is much bigger than the cars mentioned above.

I don't necesarily agree with what kayaalp says:

1) converting the electric windows to manual
2) removing the HID for regular ones
3) removing the A/C

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you do what Kyaalp mentioned above then I can tell you that you are in the wrong business. There is a thin balance bettween weightto power ratio and comfort. My MR is a perfect example of both, you know what I mean all the good stuff plus is fast.

If you think by removing 50LBS is going to make much of a difference think twice, a good tunning could make more than what you expect from weight reduction, combining both is even better but do you really want to removed the HID lights? do you want to ride in a car where you have to roll the windows manually or live in Tucson and no having A/C?

Be realistic. If you realluy want to go fast and light there are many other cars outhere that suit your needs, they sell shelby Cobra replicas that weights not even 2000lbs and pack a lot of power.

im really tempted to take off the crash beams. now that my ac is coming out as well.. combined that will be like 55 lbs off the front end. plus i have a light weight battery and suspension so im talkin almost 80 lbs of the front of the car. thats a pretty substantial savings off where the car is hurting the most. However i have one giant issue.. my carhas a sun roof. like a fool i bought it and now im stuck with 35 lbs on the top of my car. Anyone know how to get rid of a sun roof for cheap?

For road racing weight is everything. even 200 lbs is huge. especially if its off the front end. This way the brakes get a little bit of a brake.

Well if you are road racing then taking off the crash bars should be ok. I dont think insurance will cover you anyway if you crash on the course - correct? You can always put them back on for the drive home.

As far as getting ride of the sunroof some people here have taken an MR alum. roof panel and had it installed onto their GSR. That will cut some weight too.

I wasn't talking about drag racing

When I had my car corner weighted and balanced - I had it set up with 3/4 tank for
an average

I am frantically looking for my specs

seriously do what most people do as a start,
remove back seat and carpeting out of trunk,
you can also remove all sound deadning material(dont think the evo has to much since its so loud)
get carbon fiber hood and trunk(their already aluminum so it will be minimal gain)
take out anything in the interiour you arent using-carpet, maybe passenger seat.
theres lots of stuff to do just depends on how bad you really want to lose weight for your car.

I'm not really sure what you're talking about. The original poster said he was looking to shave weight to improve his performance on the track. Losing 50-100 lbs off the car (especially off the FRONT of this highly unbalanced car) will go a LONG way towards improving the handling. Sure, there are compromises. Sure, the car becomes less comfy on the street. But if you're building a track car, that's what you need.

BTW, from your talk about filling with 1/8 of a tank of gas, your idea of "track" is obviously the dragstrip. We were talking about "track" as in road-circuit. Saving 50 or 100 lbs might not make a huge difference on the dragstip...but, believe me, it makes a HUGE difference on a real track.
