Weigth reduction mods.. what woks for the evo...

i am interested in getting my evo down to 3000 lbs without me in the car. What is needed to be done to get there.(within reason) Is this even possible on a normal budget? id really appreciate it if anyone would give some insight on what has worked for them.

stop eating at mcdonalds, get rid of the blow up doll and the play boysin the trunk.
seriously do what most people do as a start,
remove back seat and carpeting out of trunk,
you can also remove all sound deadning material(dont think the evo has to much since its so loud)
get carbon fiber hood and trunk(their already aluminum so it will be minimal gain)
take out anything in the interiour you arent using-carpet, maybe passenger seat.
theres lots of stuff to do just depends on how bad you really want to lose weight for your car.

If you look to the RS you might get some ideas:

1) Pull the a/c system (compressor, condensor, hoses, etc.). That alone should save you close to 50 lbs.

2) Get rid of the HID lights. Each one is around 10-15 lbs heavier than the regular ones.

3) Convert to hand-cranked windows. That will save a few pounds per door.

Other than that, here are some other realistic ideas:

4) Get rid of the front and rear impact beams. These were added to the US-market Evo VIII to pass the 2.5 mph impact test. The Evo VII didn't have them and even the Evo VIII does without them in other markets. From what I've read, each beam is around 30 lbs...so that's 60 lbs gone right there. Don't know if there are any insurance/liability issues with this, so caveat emptor.

5) Remove the rear wiper system. You'd need to plug the hole in the rear window. Probably won't save more than 4-5 lbs, so it may not be worth it.

Then, you've got your usual (not Evo specific) lightening tricks:

6) Ligher wheels. The stock wheels are quite heavy (over 20 lbs each, IIRC). You can save a few pounds of unsprung weight per corner.

7) Lighter rotors. My custom 2-piece floating rotors weigh MUCH less than the huge lumps of steel that came with the car.

8) Lighter hood/trunk. We've already got aluminum hoods, so there won't be a huge weight savings, but it should still be noticable.

I'd say that, overall, losing 200 lbs would not be outrageously difficult or costly. But it won't exactly be a snap either.

Also could loose the power stearing system. Get a mini battery kit. Lighter exhaust system, coilovers drop the weight a bit. Loose the spare tire, all sound deading material including the gooey tar

simple stuff is good; like taking out your spare tire all floor mats passenger seats, and yopu can take out the plastic center console where the stick is, even the carpet if you liike .stuff like this wont cost you anything, you can even take the coins out the coin box. thats like 2-3lbs. depending on how much money you got in there lastly i like to run at about 33% of fuel in the tank.

Wow! That's quite dangerous in the Evo. If you start a 20 minute session with 1/3 of a tank of gas (just 15 liters!) you'll be getting close to empty by the end of the session. Under the kind of high cornering loads you'll experience, you're going to get some fuel starvation.

Running lean + turbo + full throttle + high heat = BANG!

thx for input but i have done almost everything listed except stripping the sound material. When my tranny is put back in on friday im taking out my whole ac system. Im really considering the crash beams.. but the only proplem is insurance. If the car gets into an accident with them removed they may not pay to fix it.
I already have a mini battery (p680) coilovers, and lighter exhaust system, my spare tire is always out, ive even taken out the passanger seat from time to time.

i was just hoping that you guys had a magical way to shave off like 50-60 lbs. that i havent thought of.

Replace rear and side glass with lexan? Take out both headlights, use the carbon trix headlight covers for replacements and only drive during the day? Are there any other suspension parts like controls arms and such that you can replace with lighter weight tube parts (if there are any aftermarket ones availble)? Get a lightweight sparco race seat with aluminum mounts instead of stock seats with sliders? Find as many carbon fiber replacement body parts as you can. That's all I can think of at the moment

yeah, erm, on short track, you get like 6 mpg. can only use like 10 gal before you lose fuel in a turn. bigger, open tracks you get up to 8-9 mpg, and still, you can't run more than ahlf a day with that.

Our total fuel capacity (tank full to the brim) is only 45 liters. A third of a tank is around 15 liters. By the time you get down to a quarter of a tank, you'll have significant fuel starvation. Unless you're cornering too slow to generate significant lateral g's, this is a major problem.

I use close to 20 liters of fuel per 20 minute session at most tracks (Mosport, the Glen, Tremblant, etc.). So, there's NO WAY that I could go half a day with 1/3 of a tank. A third of a tank would barely get me through one session. I go through 2 full tanks per day.
