1st Evo track day-FATT @ Summit
Had a great time exploring the limits of my 03 Evo at Summit on Friday. First time at the track with the Evo, I have previous track experience with an 87 911 and various V6 Alfa's.
Unfortunately, when running FATT, you have to start in the novice group with approx 20 other cars, most drivers with little or no experience, so I got held up quite a bit.
When I got to push the Evo, I was impressed with the way you could place it anywhere on the track and the 4 wheel drive and torque will pull you out. Grip with the stock Advans was excellent, no problems with brake fade with Ferrodo 2500's/ATE Super Blue. I was seeing a little over 120mph before braking for turn 1. The car ran great, no mechanical issues at all.
I rode with my instructor in his E36 M3 coupe, and on his second lap, he spun on oil coming out of turn 9 and we proceeded to slide drivers side into a tire barrier and up an embankment just befor the bridge. He ripped off his front bumper, and was leaking coolant, and had to be towed in. I was scared shxtless, had time to think about the impact while we were sliding, all I kept thinking was I hape we don't flip over
.
Other cool cars there included a 996 GT3, Lotus Elise, and an STI that was the fastest car down the front straight (but according to the driver was still about 10 seconds slower than the GT3 for an entire lap!)
I met another evom member there, forget his name and user name, but had a very cool blue 03 Evo, very friendly and knowledgeable-thanks for all the evo mods info you gave me!
Troy....maybe see you out there next year with your IX?

Ah - forgot about you
Glad you had a good time! Ferdodo 2500's not too bad, huh?
The Billy-goat with the BB Evo is Puckadog (Rocky) - his B-inLaw was driving the Elise
Maybe the 4 of us can hook up next year
Still waiting for the IX

How could you forget.....
.
Yeah, the 2500's worked great, but Summit doesn't seem very hard on brakes, although being held up all the time, I didn't get to use them very hard. Are you in group 2? What kind of lap times are you doing at Summit? BTW, thanks for the tip on the motel, worked out great.
Are you done parting out? may be interested in some of your mods.
HaHa, Billygoat...good description
-kind of looks like this guy!

Puckadog, I didn't get to talk to you too much in the afternoon, but yeah, I was in that turn 9 incident. Screwed up the entire instructors run group! I would have liked to have heard your instructors opinion of your car. What group are you in when you run FATT? BTW, I'm pretty sure my Evo was the fastest car in my run group-The only car that got around me was an E46 M3, which I repassed.
Rob needs race tires for his Elise? Those stock Yokos are near slicks! It was funny, in the 2nd classroom instruction they were talking about "the guy with the Elise", and how he probably shouldn't have gone out when the track was still wet in the morning because the tread on his stock Yokos was "photocopied onto the tire". Rob wasn't in the room at the time, he came in late.
Looking forward to seeing you again at the track in the near future!

Hey Andy,
I meant to send you a PM about me and that day - been too busy selling stuff, getting the car ready for sale, and getting my Ohlins shipped for custon valving.
Glad you had a good day - I have never been there with a dry track for all 4 sessions

andy... rob's last instructor, a britt, told him if he put slicks on his car he would be absolutely flyin! danm, the thing only weighs 2000 lbs... take 3-4 laps just to get some heat in 'em
you and meanie (i got yer billygoat!) and rob and i will definately have to coordinate on a fatt day in the spring. at the end of my first fatt day the inst. recommended for me to move to gr. 2 after one more session w/an inst., but i can request gr. 1 i think. i don't really mind the inst. being in the car. then all the other cars have inst. in 'em and i feel better knowing no one is going to do anything simple
look forward to it. i'll stay in touch w/troy and we'll get er done!

That is correct - I will not be committing to too many though. It seems that NASA and a few other clubs offer better deals; 2 days for about the same amount of $$$.
