Toyota Echo runs down Evo on the track
50 track days? Both the Echo and the Evo are 4-5ft off the "Proper" line at best, completely missing their apexes. In some cases it looks like their running a rain line or a rim shot...in the desert!
Either they are suffering from a serious case of red mist, this was one of their first events, or track days have just been devalued.

IMO... trackdays PROVE NOTHING, I dont give a sh*t if you have an Porsche, if you cant drive you will better "beaten" by a awesome driver in an average car... but hell trackdays shouldnt be considered comparison performance benchmarks between anybody BUT yourself... its a learning experience not a competition having a "competition" mindset is what gets you into a wall !
-sorry thats just my little rant about trackdays!

Funny video. Other than the moron behind the camera cussing.
Some people would prefer to have a dedicated track car over taking a nicer car to the track. Depending on the track conditions, group behaviour, and budget, it's not a bad idea. Add in a driver that has become very comfortable with a home track, and they can run a lot harder than someone unfamiliar or unwilling to push beyond their comfort level.
That echo looks like it's been built up pretty seriously. I'm sure it's a fun car on a twisty circuit.
Also, a lot of people don't understand driver ed. events. It's not racing. Just because you pass someone doesn't mean you "beat" them. There's no trophy at the end. Open run groups are more spirited and aggressive. Even in an open run group, people let others by. There aren't point bys usually, so it might look more aggressive than it appears.

I have a couple of credible theories:
1) The Evo owner was just crusing and did not know the track at all
2) the Evo had mechanical problems or intentionally was not going hard
It is dsiturbingly hard to believe that a Toyota Echo with a mere 100hp and a 1.5 liter engine not only could keep up with a EVO8 but also pass him.
I don't digg it at all.

Evo slower than any car on the planet?
Evo driver slower than any driver on the planet?
Unpossible!!
One of the things I will do occasionally during track days is do half a lap or more at a considerably reduced speed to let the tires or brakes come back -- that or to just bring the temps down.
This particular video shows nothing and proves nothing -- just a complete waste of time
