Seat/5th point question

For you guys with a rollbar/cage, what kinda seats are you running, and or what harnesses with the 5th point?

Been running the schroth 4pts, but just installed my roll bar, and obviously, i need to upgrade them also, and i might as well do it the whole way if i'm gonna do it.

Suggestions/links greatly appreciated, thanks again guys.

edit: i'm open to both a new seat, and modifying the stock seat.

I'd say sparco Evo2 seat since youre a big guy... and get the low sitting seat bracket that has 5th point mount nicely welded into seat bracket... I am only 5'8" and can barely see over dash board

seat bracket:

hrm, interesting, i read through that thread, basically, the mount is for an evo, then you have to drill the seat to your set position to mount it to that bracket, am i reading it right?

a lower seat is definatly a nice thought, but no slider, hrm... it's easy enough to swap seats if i don't have a track day for a bit, but we all know how that starts

when you get a bucket seat more than likely it has side mount brackets. Those side mounts then attach directly to the seat bracket.. yes, no slider is necessary unless you plan on doing driver changes

I am sure there are brackets out there that work with sliders. Obviously the lower you sit the faster you'll be through the turns.

what sort of seat were you thinking about?

So many different choices... deep bucket, more open bucket, head restraints, etc, etc,.... I just went through this too, ended up with Sparco EVO seat cause I found it dirt cheap at intense motorsports, used EVO2 (lost some weight, lol) on my 240sx race car and like it.

I also like how the EVO seat is fairly open, you can move around in it.

hadn't really thought about it much, just realized it was next in the progression.

Never swapped seats before, so nothing to base it off of.

link to where you got it from? running sparco belts too?

haha nice man, after searching last night, i think i've got it down to 3.. the pro 2000, the evo 2, or this one, found a smaller one on here, but more than likely this would be an alternative, and short of the lack of padding (which isn't a big deal to me), seems like a viable alternative to the mass sparco's

honestly, if you have a seat dealer near you I would try and sit in as many as I could. I also noticed a difference between those my friends had and the new models at the dealer. I am 5'10" and about 205 and the Pro2000 is fantastic, lots more kidney/side support than the EVO and still some wiggle room for you legs and the family jewels. The Bride FG rails are also very nice. Mount, sliders and side mounts in one. NO movement when locked in place. Aspec has them for $175 shipped.

Check here, I posted a couple pics.

hahaha...it seems you found it already.

Here is a link to their page. That is the product, but wrong side. Your best bet is to call and ask for Francis. He's also on this board too and was very helpful with this. The Bride and Nagisa are basically similar except the Bride has 2 lockers and the Nagisa only 1, so the Nagisa apparently rocks a little when in position, the Bride has zero movement. Seating is about 2" lower than stock.

Hope that helps,

Hey, I have a 5th point mount custom made for my STi. I use my harness setup for autox only... but may I say that the official mid-ohio school uses a 5pt harness setup on their school cars with the stock rsx seat, just bends the front part of the seat... but anyway I use my stock seat with the 5th point, however this is only for autox, the 5th point addition is amazing the extra point makes the harness way more comfortable (able to get everthing nice and tight without the lap rising)

hope this helps - if you consider anything with a stock seat or something that you would want a rail like this to bolt into the stock front seat front bolts.

i don't know of any around here, as everything i've ever ordered is basically mail ordered (ordered blind online).

Looks like a nice setup, but i think i'm gonna go with the seat swap option. Decision right now is just which one and how much coin to drop, as I'll need seats/rails/harnesses/etc.

If you've never pulled the seats from the Evo, it's maybe a 10-minute job. Two screws in the center console, and 4 bolts for the seat.

The only little thing that's difficult is there's a plug on the bottom of the drivers seat which goes to the wire harness so the car can tell if you have the seat belt engaged.

If the circuit is open (which it is by not plugging it back in when you put in the OEM seat), the car always thinks you have the seat belt engaged. Should make swapping seats a little easier, and I think you can probably figure out whether you have your seat belt on or not.
