Schumacher Retires

I was teary eyed this morning watching him make the announcement after winning his 5th Italian GP at Monza. I hate to see him go with so much still left. I think it's pretty terrible. I really hope he wins the World Championship this year since it will be his last. I'm not a huge MS fan, but a fan of his nonetheless and it's sad to see that one of the greatest talents F1 has ever known will be gone after 3 more races.

Quitting while you are on top is the best way to go.

Well, he still has 3 more GPs/ races to go, so hes not home free yet. And I belive he is still 2 points behind Alonso.

I was looking forward to seeing him race at next years USA GP, but I guess thats not going to happen now.

I was hoping he would be at next years US GP as well, so I could get his autograph before he retired. He knows whats best for himself, so I guess we will bid him farewell.

Well I will chime in as a huge Schumacher fan. It is a shame but I do agree that he should go out on top. Given the events of today it is now possible for him to win the championship. I can only hope he is able to grab one more record before he retires.

It is pretty obvious who will win next year. Kimi has finished 2nd the last years and the unreliability has been seriously hampering any chance of him challenging for the top spot. Now that he is moving over to Ferrari he is prime to win next year. Ironically Alonso's bid for the championship next year is highly doubtful given McLarens reliability issues as of late.
It will be real interesting to see what Kovalienen can do at Renault. I am also interested in seeing how Kuibica goes the rest of this year.

I wish he was around one more year so I could go back to Montreal to see him one last time. I looked up the Brazilian GP but it looks to be cost prohibitive. Almost worth it for the women.

well, i say he stay-but on top is always the way to go out. only it leaves you with that pit of your stomach feeling like you still had it and didnt chase it.

I am also a huge Schumacher fan, it was really sad to watch him say that he is retiring. My view on this, is that Ferrari's higher authority wanted to Schumacher to retire to make way for Kimi because if they didn't get him now and they would not get him next year. The only upside on this, Schumacher is only 2 points behind and Ferrari is 3 points ahead in championship. I just hope he leaves at the end season on top with championshop, something I wished Michael Jordan did at the 1996 season. To me he is greatest road racer of all time and will always be. I'm also a big Schumacher fan and was sad to see him announce his retirement. I think the sport needs some new fresh faces but it'll be strange not see him race anymore after this year. I'm really glad I was able to see him in person at the Montreal race.

Also I wouldn't be too sure about Kimi's win for next year. Ferrari will most likely be trying to rebuild from a loss of personal from what I understand. Ross Brawn will be leaving on a 2 year sabbatical and Jean Todt will most likely retire. I think the driver to watch will be Heki in the Renault. Kubica really shocked me. I knew he was a good Friday driver but when I watched the Monza race, I was completely surprised with race pace he kept.
