Tranny Fluid

How often you change your transmission and diff fluid? Which brand do you used? Have anyone tried Motul MOTYLGEAR 75W90 SYNTHETIC BLEND GEARBOX OIL?

After every track event. I use the stock Mits Fluids (transfer case and rear LSD use the DiaQueen LSD oil (part # 3775610), the tranny uses the DiaQueen 75W85 (part # MZ313376). No experience with the Motul. Let me know if you decide to use it and what you think.

every event is a little overkill.

I'd swap it as soon as you can from stock, to flush out the shavings, then go say 5-7 events.

Let me know when your 4th gear spits its teeth around your gearbox if you still feel the same way.

well, i've got more days on mine, than you did, with only a single swap. i changed it after my 9th event, and the 13th one is coming up, i'll do the swap after 14, just to get on a system.

starting to change stuff like that every event is prohibitivly expensive.

Yes I was but I really think it wasn't because of the BG2, more that I hadn't changed it for a couple events. I had been running BG2 for quite sometime in the car with no problems.

I use Motul for everything from the radiator fluid to the LSD oil in the rear diff. I did that in the old 03 and in the IX I have not had one problem in either car.

+1 ... I think the lubricating and cooling properties of the BG2 weren't up to par ...

PS: I do mine every 15K miles ...

That's funny you say that because two MR owners here in the bay area have burned and warped forks and sleeves in their 6spd and they both where using stock fluid.

Void also had this problem and he was running the stock fluid at the time as well.

Honestly from what I have seen, experienced and heard, the 6spd is a big pile of ****.

Voids problem was because his wife was resting her hand on the shift lever the entire time she was driving and caused premature wear.

No doubt the 6 speed isn't as strong as the 5 speed ... but people tend to play mad scientist by mixing and matching stuff that doesn't always pay off ...

Ok so with that logic my problem was that I run too many hi-temp track events and not the fluid? So quick to blame the fluid when even Jon@TRE recommends the stuff.

The two guys in the bay area with the same failure as Void didn't have wifes that drove their evos and did not rest their hands on the shifter all the time.

I'm running Redline MTL currently in my 6spd. (as recommended by TRE as well)

I'm sorry you guys are in denial of the pile of crap the 6spd is. Just because it hasn't happened to you it's all roses I guess.

Who wants to start taking bets on whos 6spd will blow up next?

So far:

TTP (4th gear, drag racing)
Warrtalon (4th gear, open track)
Razorlab (4th gear, open track)
Works/SRM-sponsored racecar (broke 2 6spds so far, 4th gear?, open track)
Void (wife)

I'm not in denial, infact I do agree that the 6 speed is not up to snuff when making a lot more than stock power levels. The 5 speed may have it's own weakness, the 1st gear may not be strong enough to take repeated abusive launches, since its only as thick as the 4th gear on the 6 speed (14mm). I've spoken to Jon@TRE about this ... but even you can't deny the weight and the viscocity of the oil and the GL rating were not identical to the stock fluid. Not only that but we don't know what types of additives for high temp and pressure were added to the oil.

Haha, hopefully its not mine that goes out next ...
