This stuff sounds like it would work for the 5-spd as well. How much fluid do you get per container? It's a bit pricey at almost $84 shipped per container.

Yes it would work on the 5 speed as well because the 5 speed is rated to use both 75W-85 and 75W-90 (per owners manual) ... but sells a seperate tranny fluid specifically for the 5 speed rated 75W-90 ...

I think I'm gonna try the Motul 300. The MR tranny takes under 3 quarts correct?

If BG2 is more for drag racing, then what does TRE recommend in the 5 speed for road coursing? Stock? Motul?

To be honest I'm a little confused with TRE recommendations because he recommended the BG2 for the 6spd as well but from his post in this thread it sounds like he doesn't.

Cool

"The other gear oil I have been looking at is NEO RHD which is 75w90 and is $19/qt"

Razor... I'm not going to tell you not to because I've been a huge fan of most Neo products, but their gear oil hasn't held up to my punishment test. Granted I race the **** out of it in a TRE built racing tranny in my GVR4, but two trannies later I swapped to 1 qt Redline Heavy and the remainder MT-90 and the tranny shifts better and after 4 races it's still alive. Previous trannies would heat up and 3/4 gear shifts would get mushy, then 4th gear would explode. Mind you that I've had a pretty extensive gear oil cooler setup on this car since the first tranny grenaded.

I've got the same redline mixture in my EVO 9 MR and it is holding up so far. I replace the fluid after every other race weekend, sometimes after each, if I think it took more abuse. Regardless of what fluids I run I know I will have to replace the 6-speed sooner or later, not so sure if a 6-speed will go back in. Before my next race at the end of the month I (or maybe VIP if they are up for it) will be installing the SCCA approved cooler setup (all the parts are in my garage now).

I know Marty has had 5th gear synchro issues with his 5-speed...twice so far. Anyone else have this? He already has the cooler and been playing around with various gear oil mixtures, some have worked better than others.

CJ,

THANK YOU for this information! So you are using 1QT redline shockproof heavy and the rest redline MT-90? Did you gearbox temps change from the Neo to this?

I will also be running a tranny cooler and also a temp gauge.

Do you have info and photos of your VR4 cooler setup? Also, do you have info and photos of the cooler setup going into your MR? This would be MUCH appreciated!

Does anyone plan on releasing a tranny cooler kit for the MR? I don't have a problem
piecing together a kit, however it would be nice to buy as a whole. Should we contact
some vendors? Razor I'm with you and TRE's postion on BG, I am confused. Although it
may not be the total cause it doesn't seem to be part of the solution.

I will be doing a write up on mine. The only problem is that I have a fitting that will spray the cooled fluid directly over 4th gear. In order to make this fitting, you have to fab the gearbox case. Obviously this needs to be done with the gearbox out of the car and with the casing taken apart.

I "bolt-on kit" would have to use the fill and drain holes and probably wouldn't be as effective as spraying onto 4th gear but would still be effective in that it would cool the fluid and allow you to run a little bit more capacity because of the cooler.

If there is enough interest in something like this I could go put the pieces together for interested parties.

Cool

AMS performance will have a kit available shortly based upon the prototypes on my GVR4 as well as Marty and my EVO's (5-speed and 6-speed). Give me a little time to finish the setup for the 6-speed and get the parts list and pics etc. to Martin and the crew.

Razor... I did that on my GVR4 tranny. Used a -3 line branched off the main return line and used a bulkhead fitting with a crimped alum tube to spray oil directly over the 3/4 gear and slider setup. Rich Glorioso actually fab'd this up for me the last time I had the GVR4 tranny out for rebuild. I'll get pics posted as soon as I can.
