harnesses lol, I know...

Okay, please no 4 vs 5 vs 6 pt debate or whatever you may want to contrive out of this question... I need some help, then we can bicker

I want relatively inexpensive (les than $300 ea. if possible) 4-point harnesses for DEs b/c my instructors are complaining that they are sliding out. The CGlock works well for me... but it's prolly time b/c I'm looking into som RA-1s.

Question is: Will any of the available harnesses work, bolted to the rear seabelt pickups?

-I don't want a rollbar, this isn't a dedicated car yet, I am about to start a family, don't want steel bars in my cockpit.

(I've noticed there is a 'long' and 'short' version of the takatas... is this just for different applications or for this purpouse?)

So far I've been looking at the sparco camlock 4pt, but have no idea if it will go all the way back to the rear seats, every website seems to assume you have a harness bar.

Thanks guys!

still doing research... so here: http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop...ess-p-767.html
does the 75" option account for mounting it to the rear? Is that what I should be looking for?

You could look on ebay for some cheapo 4 pt harnesses ... less than $100 and doesn't require a harness/roll bar ...

Thats not safe.

You dont need a full roll bar. Search harness bar.

I think the Peak camlock harnesses at http://www.racesafetydirect.com/ are a pretty good deal.

wow, thanks, amazing price lol I almost was crying at $566 for sparcos...
..but what I'm asking is how to determine whether a given harness will work as a bolt in for the lancer? Just so long as the shoulder straps are ~75""?

just looked at those Peak harnesses a bit more, they are only a max of 56", I just measured in the car it is exactly 56" from the rear bolt to my waist... perhaps pose a problem for larger instructors??

im confused.. he wants to put the shoulder belts mounted to the rear deck of the evo?

in an accident the webbing stretches.. adding 3 feet of it would be bad.

and if youre going to bother to put in a 4-pt.. how hard is it to add a sub-belt?

wow.. those things are all kinds of unsafe..

first off.. 72" of shoulder belt is going to become about 82" real fast..

second.. those bent brackets will be stress to max if not beyond.

third.. the 40+ degree angle of the harness with destroy your seat, spine or both.

my advice.. RUN!

hmm... 'preciate the advice Ryan. (my name too) Didn't think about the stretch of the harnesses on impact. I'll look into that too... but I think my mind is pretty made up about not having bars yet...
You're prolly right on the 5 pt thing, I may just get 5pts, but I'd asked to leave that discussion for later.

thanks nils, 'preciate the effort.
unfortunately I dont think that'll work for a few reasons:
1. brackets look a bit weak
2. straps look 2"... I'd really rather 3"
3. the shoulder straps attach to the laps via loops... I'd really rather a camlock since I'm not running any type of rollbar... easier to get me out, plus just imagining tightening that thing makes me think it will pull the lap up if you tighten the shoulders.

I'm looking at G-force competition harnesses right now, dont seem too pricey. Especially the ones sold on ebay b/c they are out of inspection.

here.. get a removable harness bar and some 6-pt simpson platinums or teamtechs.

bolt it in when you need it... the 10 minutes is worth saving your spine.

ps.. you all have had the "6pts with no roll bar" debate right?

oddly enough, you may be safer with stock belts if racing in a parking lot.
