Data Acquisition...??

Anyone familiar with the MSD ignition G2X GPS based data acquisition?? or other types of data acquistion? I'm looking for one so I can hook up my laptop at the track/autox to see what sections/line I need work on after each run?

I use Driftbox, which uses Vbox technology.

You can find out more info here: http://www.vboxusa.com/driftbox/data.php

I have a Race-Technology DL1. It is awesome. From all of my research, I've found that the capabilities of most of these systems are similar. What sets them apart is the software. The DL1 software is very, very powerful. There can be a steep learning curve, but in the end, it had all of the features I liked and has tons of room to grow.

The data you get is only as good as the software you use to review it!

Another bonus of the DL1 was that I have friends who have it. The ability to overlay your data with other drivers can be a HUGE learning plus.

Race-technology.com offers a free download of their software, and you can get sample data to play with as well.

Don't discount the Driftbox. Racelogic has a lot of experience with the Vbox, and the Driftbox is a nice, portable, all-in-one unit. Unlike the Vbox, there are no sensors and you can easily transfer it car to car. A recent firmware update will now allow it to work as a GPS dyno and it will work with Google Earth so that you can overlay your track line. Trackvision is also working on supporting it and it will hopefully be implemented soon. It uses SD cards. It's $750 and a decent option for those considering track data acquisitiion.

Here is a sampe Google Earth overlay from WSIR:

I've got a G2X. Only had it a couple weeks so I'm still figuring it out. The box itself is very straightforward but the software is pretty involved. It's geared more toward lapping events than "open" courses like autocross, but Racepak's tech support has been very helpful. It's definitely going to be helpful.
