Track Day Camera Options?

Looking for a camera setup to film trackdays this year. Some groups don't like suction cup mounts (PCA group told me no on a suction cup windshield mount), so looking for other alternatives. I know a lot of people bolt a camera to their harness bar, but I don't have one currently.

So, wondering if I could get a small chase-cam and cleverly/safely install in somewhere in the car. I'd love to have it up front somewhere low with a wide-angle lens of course! Like hidden in the bumper area would be awesome!

Heard good things about this site:
http://www.chasecam.com

I'm a total noob to digital video, so I really have no idea what all I'd need. Seems if you go with a chasecam, you need a digitial recording device to save the data off with? Perhaps secured in the glovebox perhaps?

I'll cut you a deal on these.... they are the most used cam mount on the market.

That mount works great. I use it for all my track video. It really does an amazing job of dampening vibrations. Some examples from my in-car setup:

Unfortunatly mounting it without a rollbar or rollacage would be interesting.

Thanks for the vids. What camera was used to film these, I think the quality is really good, both picture and sound! Unlike a lotta vids, this one really feels like you're going fast.

I checked out your auto-x vid, and the quality was much less.

Here's my setup using a Chase Cam clamp. I think it's what Ultimate CC was referring to...

My non-harness bar in-car camera mount (pics)

Thanks for the pics, awesome detailed install pics too. I've watched a lotta video that you've posted, and wondering if some/most of it was taken with this mount? Can't point to anything specifically though.

Sony cam, can you post/pm me the details on it? I have no idea what kinda camera to get yet. Thanks!!

Every video from me was with this camera and this mount in this position. This coming season, I have a bullet cam that will allow me to take video from elsewhere and allow me to get better sound, since the Sony doesn't have a wind filter or anything.

The camera is a Sony DVD-405. AT the time of purchase, there was only one better version, and that was the DVD-505. For the extra cost, the one extra feature was not worth it to me. As denoted by the name, this camera records to mini-DVD directly, not to a hard drive. I can get 30mins of continuous recording on each DVD, and they are R/W, so I can upload the vids to my PC and then delete them from the DVD for re-use...or if the vids aren't good, I can just delete them right away for re-use.
