noob question: HPDE in rain
where i'm from most of our track days are in the rain! some clubs require you to keep the windows down, in these cases you dont get that much rain in the car since you're moving down the track.
if you are allowed to keep windows up, make sure your heater/fan/ac is working properly because it gets real foggy!

Keep the windows down even if they let you roll them up. You won't get wet don't worry about it. Rain = instant additional 100hp! It's great, it teaches you how to drive smooth.
I use to race open wheel formula cars. Now that was pure insanity in the rain. No windshield wipers. Rooster tails shooting up like crazy. Mind as well have a blind fold on.
Don't give up a chance to run in the rain it's what separates us from NASGAY.

Ran in the rain today, and got some really good advice. On some tracks you can simply run about a 1/2 or full car length off line. Kinda like driving in the middle instead of apexing.
Other tracks, like the one I was on today, can be very slick in corners where everyone has driven. To combat this, go really deep into the turn, and you should be able to turn in with some grip and turn through the line. You might even be able to feel your car drift (ala lose traction) through the line and then grab again after you are through the normal driving line and you can get back on the gas.
Oh, and running while raining with the windows down I got very little, if any, water into the car. Just a bit on the top of the door. It rained some on the way home on the interstate and I left the windows down a bit even!

Yup, seems as if most folks in our area expect the drivers window to be down always, the instructors window to be all the way up or all the way down and rear windows... well, don't really hear much about those as most folks track cars are two doors.
In short yup, they are up.
I know I was a bit shy about running in the wet at first but overall its not too bad in that you need to chill a bit and really focus on smoothness and thats a good thing. Add to that the fact that we have more traction than just about any other car available and what do we have to be all that nervous about?

What's a good tire to use in the rain?
My first rain event I had full-tread RA1's, so I ran those. They are getting worn down now, so I left on the Advans I have. I dunno if they are worse in the rain or if I was pushing it harder (at least the latter), but I was hydroplaning and sliding a LOT in the Advans. I was able to work and finesse my way through it and really picked up speed througout the day. I rained ALL day.
Anyways, what's a good tire for DE's in the rain? Maybe a better question is what's a good street tire for occasional tracking in the wet?

I run the bridgestone fuzions as a street/wet tire. they're fun in the dry too, scream like mad.
