Which model is best to track (road-race)?
04 RS did NOT have aluminum roof. Aluminum roof was only introduced in the 05 models. It did have FLSD, AC and no wing. The urban jungle package was a joke. Its the same joke as being able to buy an EVO with the regular lancer wing .... but there is a red EVO in our region that did come with the regular lancer wing (ultra rare)!
I when I was originally shopping for an EVO, I heavily considered the 05 EVO8 RS because of the aluminum roof but the lack of ABS and EBD was the straw that broke the camel's back ...

Not quite.
When ordering a 2003 evo you could specify whether you wanted the $1000 carbon wing or the low, 3 point, brake-light wing. They actually weren't that rare at all. Remember, the US evos were _never_ a limited production vehicle.
The urban jungle package was not a joke, it was simply a mistake. It never existed.

The best car to track is not an evo..unless you are made of $$$..to0 expensive, generates too much heat, kills your wallet in consumables, and you can go just as fast in a lot of other cars for a lot cheaper.......just my 2 cents after 50 track days and TT's in an Evo. Ask richard. He could have a Ferrari with what he has spent on his Evo

Definite benefit of the Evo.
I think I'd miss the ABS like others have noted. I would think it'd be even more noticeable in the rain too. Being the Evo has AWD, it's nice to be able to track it in the rain - which I have. Ran into rain already twice this year and lotsa others packed up and headed home before noon!

That said, we'll see how it is without ABS at a rally and who knows...
Besides what peter, said the only significant time when ABS is really nice is in the snow or ice. Even with M+S tires Ill go into ABS quite easily on the way to tahoe. Might not actually affect you since this car will be dedicated track car? Then ABS isn't a huge deal. Even tracking my car in rain, the ABS rarely comes on.
I've only had issues with the tires locking up a couple of times, both were under very hard braking going into the carousel at Sears. It was surprisingly easy to modulate. I thought I'd really be lost without it, but you get used to it.

Again, standing water will do that, as we run on flat courses down here.
I wouldn't run in the wet without it, honestly.
