Since you're posting this in the Motorsports forum, I'm assuming you plan to track the car eventually. Since you talk about MAXXX REAL ULTIMATE POWER!!! I'm assuming you want your car to be the fastest thing on God's green earth.

If that's your goal, here's my advice: forget Evo's and STi's. Let's assume you've got a $35K budget. Get yourself a C5 Corvette FRC. Figure $20-22K for a very good one. Strip it out. Slap in a cage, seats, harnesses. Cam and tune the engine to bring it up to C5 Z06 specs. You'll have a few grand left over for quality coilovers and good tires.

That'll give you a lightweight, well balanced, highly reliable car that will be one of the quickest cars around most circuits. Evo's and STi's modded and tuned to within an inch of their lives aren't the most pleasurable cars to thrash around a track (if you're the guy paying the bills).

Maybe you should also post this on NASIOC and see what they say.

Funny I recently read a thread where all these 07 Sti's out there that can't even install TBE's, because of something to do with their ECU's. The Engine's were also blowing up as well.
everyone know's the best years for the Sti were the 04-05. IMO what you are asking is which Car has more potential. The Evo win's that hands down, but for just BPU's(Basic performance upgrades) on both car's from stock form it's really just who's the better driver. with the Evo having a slight edge.

the 07 stys have much better tuned gear ratios.. wich will help a bunch..

as far as the engine goes.. i have hurd nuthing about changes....

also.. dont down the aftermarket grimlins... the evo10 cant get exhuast in any way shape or form until the ecu is hakd... wich shoulndt be that long...

The problem you are referring to is because of the wastegate, it can't keep up when you unrestrict the flow thus you get boost creep. This is easy to fix, you can modify the wastegate directly or you can modify the ECU. Realistically how many people with evos install a turboback exhaust without plans for a reflash? This is basically that just on a Subaru. The 07 was the best STi made since it built on all the previous years. The gear ratios were changed (as mentioned before), I think the diffs underwent some changes and I think the engine was tweaked a bit.

that would be "maxed" tuned...
Maxed tuned

Stupid thread. Rigoli goes eights in a subie and AMS & Buschur go eights in evos. You will likely never even get close to 9's. Why would a race car sway you decision on which car to purchase. Get what ever you like and be happy.

Ok..... well then, AMS has probably the fastest TA EVO in the US and Crawford has the same in Subie form. But again these are shop cars with a pretty nice budget that will best any grassroots one man band. I wouldn't let either car sway my decision in a vehicle purchase. But i will say that with basic mods an Evo is a better road racer for the money. I have owned both an 04STI and of course my 05MR and lightly modded both of them. Having driven both of them on the same local track I prefer my Evo.

ive drivin both STi and EVO gsr... and i chose the sti.. with light mods and stock....

but again.... we arnt talking about lightly modded.. we are talking.. "maxed tuned" as he sais....

Subaru has never won a GT300 or GT500(Subaru dose not compete in GT500) championship since as far back as i can tell which is 1993.

Go drive each of them.....when I bought my EVO, I drove the 06 STI and the 06MR back to back......there was no question for me - the EVO looks better, and handles more precisely......I love STI's....but that front has got to go...I find the steering heavier on the STI and I love the ACD on the EVO.

I work on my buddies STI with him - it is more difficult to mod than my car, but not to the point where there is a real big difference.

It seems like there is a lot more mod options for the EVO.......its your choice.....you won't be disappointed with either car.

.........but I'd choose the EVO in a heartbeat!

Good luck and have fun on the test drives!

Or find a chick that just digs you just for you that already has her own house and sell the Evo for a Porsche... Oh wait, that's me.

Anyway, I'm surprised no one has commented that modded to the max is so broad... At least say that you're keeping the factory motor, LS7 CF tube frame Evo that NOTHING left on it besides the look of the exterior is still Evo like... That'll beat an STi.

With mods to improve the trouble areas on both cars at a reasonable price, they'll be exactly the same for nearly the same money, so really like most people say its entirely personal pref. If you're going crazy with mods though, I'd go with an Evo.

What Warrtalon said about the MR is true, however, take that with a grain of salt because if I get aftermarket suspension on my GSR (for less than the price difference between the MR and the GSR) I will already be faster with equal drivers. Then get one of the ~1000 dollar CF roofs and the MR only has the 6-speed as any sort of advantage, and while it is nicer for road racing, it isn't that much nicer... Kind of like having the factory pedals or race pedals, makes it easier but not by a significant amount. The fastest factory Evo is the MR, the fastest with a few simple mods is the RS. Well set-up nice suspension and a CF roof on an RS... what's that Mazda says? zoom zoom? Me, I'd (and did) pick a GSR simply because it is going to be a daily driver and while the RS isn't THAT annoying in its missing creature comforts, it just wouldn't be the right one for me.
